Saves time and money. Just being honest. I do all my own maintenance just because I don't trust any mechanic anymore after some of the horror stories I've gone through. About the only thing I can't do on a bike is replace a tire and that's only because I don't have the equipment to do it. I could use blocks and a 2x4 but nah. I'll just take the wheels in and drop them off and pick them up later. Pre-purchase inspections are easy. Google can help on that or maybe one of your friends who knows motorcycles? I'd even possibly help out depending on the time/date.
As far as a 250 getting boring? Yeah, if you ride it in a straight line all the time. But I have as much fun on a properly setup 250 in the lakes backwoods on 113 or at BIR. Just as much, if not more fun as I have on my ZX10 in the same places. Ultimately up to you. The 250 will peter out at around 80 MPH so if you're planning on taking it on the interstate bad choice especially if you're bigger. Go for the new Ninja 300 it will get up to 120 now. Or for a 600 as stated earlier. It all depends on how big you are. The SV650 is one of my all time favorite bikes as I used to have a race bike that was converted from an 01. That thing was a riot. Handled like a dream and was a terror on the track although not very competitive on the straights it could easily overtake a lot of the bigger bikes in the curves. On the street it was enough to commute and have fun in town. The Ninja 650R is a pretty good bike too. Has the sportbike look but a bit more relaxed riding ergos. It too is a 650 twin and is quite fun to ride (I looked at getting one years ago).
But, if you're set on a 250R, go 08+ since they redid the suspension design for the better on them. If you look at all the bikes in the N250 class at BIR they are all 08+. If you can, go for the Ninja 300 but if you're a bigger guy, as I am, look at something with a bit more power like the SV650, 650R. They aren't classified as sport bikes so insurance will be cheaper and they can be found cheap (especially the SV). The 636 Ninja (old ones or the new ones) is about the perfect street bike. More than enough power and it handles awesome. I had an 05 and have been looking to purchase another to make it a track bike. Only problem is with the 636s squids tend to stunt the shit out of them and beat them to hell so they usually require some work.

Trailer out the the Smokey hills between DL and PR, or to the Paul Bunyan north of Akeley/Nevis. Just drive up the minimum maintanence roads and park in an opening and go. There are tons of trails, some gravel pits, and a TON of cut woods if you like bushwacking through shit.
I also used to have a couple of tracks that both had elevation changes and pretty sick layouts, but they are now gone since I don't live there anymore.

The decals must be displayed in the proper location (Both sides of the windshield) for a racer to be eligible to compete in the race series. Racers will receive their first pair of decals free. Additional pairs will be $5.00/pair.
Each racer may race up to TWO bikes per day, and have the results count towards their respective classes. The bikes must be in different classes. The bike(s) must be chosen before the racer makes a pass. In this instance, the racer must pay a separate entry fee for each bike.
A single bike may not be shared by competitors.
QUALIFYING
Qualifying ends at 4:30:00 PM (This time can be changed at our discretion. The time will be listed at the top of the scoreboard. When the competition is over, "FINAL" will be written at the top of the scoreboard.).
In the instance of a 4:30:00 end time, 4:29:59 is the LAST acceptable time, 4:30:00 DOES NOT COUNT. Your timeslips will have the time of day at the bottom of them. This is the clock the competition uses.
SCORING

Each day, the five quickest bikes in each class will receive points toward the year-end points championship.

Qualifying will end at 4:30. The 5 quickest bikes(qualifiers) in each class will be listed on the scoreboard.

The two quickest qualifiers, whose bikes can still make a pass down the track(SEE BREAKAGE RULE), will race in the final for their class. The winner of the final will get first place in their class. The loser of the final will get second place in their class.

The remaining 3 bikes in the class will get 3rd, 4th and 5th place, which is determined by ET. (For instance, if the #1 qualifier breaks, and isn't able to compete in the final, the #2 and #3 qualifiers would race in the final, and the #1 qualifier would get 3rd place.

After the final race, the points will be awarded as follows: First = 10, Second = 8, Third = 6, Fourth = 4,
Fifth = 2
BREAKAGE RULE: In an attempt to make the final races exciting for the spectators, the following rule will be enforced. If a bike that has qualified for the final is hurt, and the rider decides to enter the final race in an effort to get points for second place........then the hurt bike must complete the quarter mile in a predetermined time or less*. If the wounded bike fails to do so, the rider will receive 5th place points, and riders #3, 4 and 5 will move up one spot. This is to deter a rider from racing in a final, and limping their bike down the track, just for points. The final race is designed to add excitement to our race series. If a rider hurts their bike DURING the final race, this rule will be waived, and the rider will be awarded second place points.
*Predetermined Times: Lightweight: 12.00, Middleweight: 11.50, Heavyweight: 10.50, Supersport: 10.70, Big Bore: 10.20, Unlimited: 9.70

On the first raceday of the year, "records" will be set in all of this classes. The quickest time in each class(in qualifying or the final) will be considered the “record” for that class. In the following race days, if the racer with the quickest ET in their class(in qualifying or the final) breaks the existing record, they will be awarded two extra points. There are no extra points given on the first raceday for establishing the first "record".

Couple options, if you do a lot of straight to mild corner riding and lots of miles something like the Avon Storm 2 or the Pirelli angle/demon tire is best, get lots of miles out of them and can corner well on them but don't try to drag knee, or drag race. If you want something with a bit more traction (plan on a few passes at the strip or some harder corners) go to a Michelin Pilot Power or if even more cornering a Pilot Power 2CT.
I can mount but until I have a building to set up shop I don't have a balancer.

Can you get tires? PM me with info. I'm leaning towards the Pilot Powers.
