Just hate to do it sometimes refuse to do it because you know the results and dont wanna be part of it. I wouldn't say that core in internally finned because its not, its crammed full of honeycomb.

There's no better feeling than being confident in your parts and not having to worry about it falling apart on you. Of course its better then stock but definatly not the best route to go. As some people like to say "you get what you pay for", and "buy it nice or but it twice". Seen that fall true so many times. Im suprised Kevin didn't have any input on this as far as cutting corners cuz i know back in the day he was constantly repairing his parts.

You always here all the Honda guys raving about these cores because they are never even pushing the limits and most dont ever push more than 10 psi, any IC is gonna work for that application. But as i said there was a guy who did some intake temp testing and was noticing roughly 20 deg increase over ambient/psi over 12. I'd be doing some researching and trying to find out if the tanks are even designed to take large amounts of boost. I know he designs most all his stuff for Honda guys who aren't running much boost. I know a lot of Buschurs old endtanks were desgined to think and the welds would blow out. Same goes for the Venom intake manifolds they are only rated for 25 psi before the welds and material gives loose. Point being here is Jim if you build a whole setup off Ebay which are heard is what you had planned your gonna be hurtin in the long run and constantly fixing if you want these products to hold up for a daily driver. I know alot of guys build thin wall headers for race cars because they do not endure the abuse of daily driving. I had a thin wall header on my DSM and it was constantly cracking, i got so sick of pulling it off and welding it i just gave up. I've seen those DSM manifolds fall apart in person, kid had to drive back from Ohio to MN w/ a hose clamp holidng up his wastegate. The wastegates on there do not hold boost, they creep as badly as an internal gate.

I didn't plan on building the entire thing on ebay, I was just talking with kevin about the different manifolds last night on AIM. I believe you that they fall apart, i've read the honda stuff too...

There's this big thread of a bunch of people that use the JRC. Your prob right that intercooler sucks, is it worth $195 to find out? i dont know? there seem to be alot of people happy with it, i haven't read any out of those 20 pages that weren't.

if i just have a small turbo, and i dont want to have a huge setup, it seems like it wouldnt be that terrible.

i wont talk about it anymore i already know how you feel about it

I wouldn't be using that core if you plan to be making decent power or running some decent boost. Some guy just did testing on the core and its colling was over @ anything above 12 psi. If i remember right i think he mentioned he was gaining 20 deg/psi above 12. Most their cores dont have any sort of internal cooling fins. They are radiator cores not FMIC's hence the price. They buy these radiator cores in 4'x4' sheets and cut them to size thats how they do it so cheap.

doh!

But which core did they test? The 5 and 6 inch intercooler ones that JRC makes are really little...

It looks to me like they have internal fins?

Either way, it's got to be way more efficent then the stock SMIC, and for either me or joel, the 8" JRC is pretty much a steal at $195?

I guess the only thing i'd ask is, what's the efficency like in terms of deg / psi of boost on comparable intercoolers?
