As a parts store employee you sell people parts they (supposedly) need. As a tech I install parts they need (AFTER PROPER DIAGNOSIS).

When you do your free vehicle scanning go ahead and sell them some stuff, it's your job. But when 5 codes pop up and the guy is stranded here on his way from virginia to winnipeg do every tech a favor and just send them to a shop. I know it goes against every corporate training video you've ever seen but you DON'T have to make the sale every single time. And do not, under any circumstances, use scare tactics to make your sale (eg: your car won't make it another 500 miles without spark plugs).

As of this evening I have decided that when a person comes to me saying something along the lines of "Joe at the parts store sold me these because he scanned my car and told me I needed them" and you have sold them the wrong parts (knowing all along that it won't fix the problem), I will be calling you (just ask the south university autozone manager). If, by chance, you do get a call from me, don't yell and make rude comments. I can get pretty fucking nasty when I'm mad.

And autozone guy, if you are on here..i put plug wires on his car and cleaned his MAF sensor he is happily on his way.

Nope. All it means is that they didn't need him for the last 2 weeks. We had a service tech put in his 2 weeks and we sent him home after that as there wasn't any point having him there still.

The 2 weeks is a courtesy so that your employer can find a replacement and so that everyone can get their stuff squared away. He doesn't have to give 2 weeks notice. He wasn't fired in this instance.
