This will be the first winter in 15 years that I won't have a four-wheel-drive. My little Focus ZX3 has to get around town this winter and it could use a new pair of shoes.

I was just curious as to what some of you might recommend for a good all-season radial that will get me **good winter traction **for under $200 mounted/balanced. This is obviously just for 2 tires as I'm too cheap to spring for 4.

I've done some checking and research (tirerack.com) at local tire shops and the 2 best I've come up with so far are BFG trac ta's, and Bridgestone UNI-T Potenza G009 BL's. The size I'm looking to buy is 195/60/R15.

Thanks in advance.

I'd have to go look at which model each was.. but I liked the old potenzas better up front in the winter. Nice traction for the rest of the year, though.

Looking at just tread pattern - those nokians look really nice for snow.

As far as reviews go, I don't put alot of faith in what user's reviews say. Alot of times, they are comparing the tires being reviewed to the OE tire that came off. Usually, the OE tire sucks and when replacing an old tire with a new one... The new one almost always seems better.

That's interesting to hear. Reading consumer reviews, most are favorable to the BFG's and Bridgestones in the winter; more-so than most other tires in their price range.

I can't find much UNBIASED information on the Nokians anywhere but am open minded and will continue to research.

Thanks for the opinions.

I have the G009's on my grand am and suck for acceleration, okay for stopping but pretty good for turning on ice and snow. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone but for mild performance use.

I hate it when rednecks here have bald ass shit tires in their one-wheel-drive trucks and just spin like mad trying to take off from a light.. and don't even BOTHER trying to stop when the light turns red.

Coincidentally, I'm selling a set of 4 Blizzak WS-50s. they're 195/65R15. Plenty of tread left. These list new for about $80 a tire. I'd let mine go for a fair bit less than that, and there'd be no tax or shipping. You cannot run them in the spring, summer, or fall, but they are untouchable on ice and snow.

Also, if you get real tires, get a set of 4. You don't want to drive the car with wacked out handling.
