Regular texts send and receive just fine. I've got two phones with shared 1200 (or maybe its 1000) minutes and 10 My Circle numbers between both and I think it's like $79.99 a month. I also added 1000 texts to my line for an extra $10 a month.

The only thing about My Circle is that you have to step up to a certain number of minutes to get it - meaning you have to have a more expensive plan to have it. I think the most minutes we've used total has been like 500 because calls to the people we talk to most is free.

alltel seems like a good cost effective alternative, hows the texting/picture messaging between alltel and other providers? i know with vzw i had problems getting/sending pix with others

In the beginning, there was a problem with getting calls to come through, but they've since fixed it. I have an old Razr v3c and have no problems with reception or lack of service anywhere I go. When I had Sprint, I would start roaming just on the other side of Jamestown going west, but with Alltel there is pretty much no roaming anywhere in ND, SD, or MN. Plus, with My Circle, there is very little risk of going over your minutes.
