<![CDATA[Phone Scam]]>The last couple days, I've gotten calls from a strange number. Each time they call, I get the exact same pre-recorded message:

Message wrote:
This is Chris St. James with Broadcom, at 800 210 2892. I'm calling regarding your credit card balances and the minimum payments that are going up. It is imperative that you call me back. You now qualify for the debt reduction allowance program. Again, my name is Chris St. James, and my phone number is 800 210 2892. It is imperative that you give me a call.

I know full well that this is a scam. After I received the first call and message, I Google'd the name because I wasn't sure why I would be getting a call from a credit card company. I read TONS of stories from people who have gotten the exact same call and message. Many of them called the number and asked to be taken off their calling list, and no matter how many times they called back and asked, each time they were immediately hung up on. There were even quite a few people who regularly get this call and message upwards of ten times a day. Luckily, I'm only at one per day so far.

It's not only cell phones, but also landlines, business phones, even dorm phones. Each call originates from a handful of different numbers, but they are all coming from Nevada.

Does anyone know of a place I can report this to? This whole identity theft thing is fucking ridiculous, and I'd like to get these people some jail time. Plus, I'd like to stop the calls before I get harassed any more than I am already.

I would try contacting the ND Better Business Bureau (701) 271-2855. They can be pretty persuasive when they wanna be and, chances are, they've received calls on these guys already.

Fuck that. Call customer service about it and see what they can do. They might know about it already and can block a bunch of 'em at once.

Block one number really wouldn't do anything. They could have hundreds of numbers. I know it would be a pain in the ass but have you thought about changin your number? Solved very easily that way.

That was what I was definitely going to do first. I was hoping more for something that would lead to them being arrested though.
