It's not verizon that does it.. it's the way a blackberry is designed.

In order for an email server to be able to sync your emails to the blackberry unit, a Blackberry Enterprise Server is required.

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/server/exchange/

Look at the pricing.. it is so unrealistic.

Now... Email providers such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.. Have this service available for you but if your company runs their own Email server, you have to have this product in order for blackberry's to sync.

In my case... FAIL. I'm not wasting my time, money, or breathe on trash like that.

edit... saw your edit. yea. you can do it that way.. but that defeats the purpose if ur at ur PC anyway. in my case.. i need it to be sync'd while im out and about as i work remotely.

EDIT: nm....read the rest of the thread. You don't HAVE to have Blackberry Enterprise Server. You can send/receive emails just fine w/o it as well as sync to Outlook/facebook/whatever for calendars/tasks/etc... Just have to plug in to do so (or do it via bluetooth)

My advice is to avoid windows mobile OS like the plague. Other than the windows OS I like the new Treo a lot. I use the touch screen all the time, I think it's a real advantage over the non-touch screen phones. if I had to do it over again, I'd get the new Palm Pre with the linux based OS. It's gotta be better than this glitchy win mobile stuff.

You don't have to pay to send and receive emails. You have to pay for a product that you put on the email server that allows the blackberry to sync with the email server.

When I was looking at prices of this.. its spendy as fuck and not worth it at all.

From what I've been reading and the research I've done.. there isn't a workaround to get emails from a Microsoft Exchange email server to a blackberry. If there is, im all ears.

There is stupid ways of doing such as fowarding the Exchange emails to a service like gmail or hotmail, then having the blackberry sync with that email. But thats rigged and VERY unprofessional when dealing with clients.

So.. thats my reasoning for ruling out the blackberry.
