Electric stuff:

MPFI conversion

Added vtec wiring, 4 wire o2, etc.

converted and chipped p28 spec ecu w/ datalogging, ostrich
RTP

I think thats about it. All work was done by me, with no help except for the peeps on d-series.org, pgmfi, and honda-tech. All the wiring is soldered, loomed.

I'm using crome to tune and running a p30 basemap w/ p2p fuel map, running super rich. The timing is alllll fucked up, due to several factors including deck height, y9 cam gear offset, weird ass p2p ignition timing. I got it close and the car runs fine but doesn't make the power I think it has the potential to make, and won't until I get it on a dyno.

I've put basically all my time into the motor, so the car still needs shocks, brakes, tires, paintjob etc. I've got a bunch of other stuff sitting here like a crower stage 2 cam, dsm injectors, bigger fuel pump, and a disc brake conversion which I need bigger wheels for. I'll get that stuff done whenever time permits.

This build has been a real pantload. I learned soooo much though doing it myself. I've gained alot of confidence in my wrenching abilities.

I'm jonesed to get it on a dyno and get the timing and fuel maps right but that might not happen until next spring, I don't know. As it's tuned now, it's not even quick, i've never revved it out, never raced anyone, and I won't either, so I have no idea how quick it will be at this point.

Any questions, comments?

Looks the same, except cracked primer on the front quarters, a rust spot on the drivers side rear quarter, center console torn up from some fucking jackass who really wanted my deck and thought tearing the heater controls out was a good way to get it. i'll try and take pics tomorrow tho.

yeah, probably, but now I know how to export a fuel table to one of a different size, amirite?

as for the plugins? what, you've never been curious? i'd like to be able to try them for myself rather than just seeing how they work on paper, but i can't, and it's frustrating. i'd also really like to see an antilag plugin work as that is a nice piece of programming.

if i wanted to make things easier for myself i could have put on a z6 head instead of the oddball y8, bought an obd conversion harness instead of making it myself, bought a chipped and vtec added ecu instead of pissing around with that (to be fair I did ruin the first p28 I had. i somehow broke the o2 sensor functions) , had someone else do the work, and myriad other things that would have saved my ever growing bald spot. hell, i could have just slapped an intake, header, and exhaust on the a6 with no mpfi conversion and called it a day. That wasn't really the point tho.

The point was to get in way over my head and dig myself out.
I wanted to learn as much as I could on this first build without spending much money. I'm still very cheap, that hasn't changed. I came up with the idea for the setup I wanted based on the amount of DIY work I could do cheaply to get it there.

I had never swapped a head before or even seen it done. Nick or Kevin (not sure who actually did it) were nice enough to swap the head on my dsm for cheap when my balance shaft belt went and got into the timing belt.

I didn't know that changing obd systems was even feasible, or why anyone would want to in the first place. I didn't know how mechanical and ignition timing works, or why I would need to mess with them. Crome and Uberdata looked like a pile of numbers and bullshit when I started out.

My tuning of the dsm consisted of porting the exhaust side of the turbo, getting a MBC, a bigger fuel pump, and chasing boost leaks. Not too complicated, but i still think with a good trans and clutch that car could have ripped out some good numbers.

And yeah, might be a 'mild' build, but i'd say it's pretty good for a noob.

After I get this all tuned and whatnot, and possibly down the track a few times, I might try building the bottom end, and put the stuff I have sitting around on.

On the other hand, this car needs alot of work still. It needs tires, brakes, and shocks before winter sets in which i'll need to come up with the money for. Sometime over the spring/summer the honda rot on the rear fenders started and is creeping it's way from barely noticable to annoying. So I don't know how much more money I really want to put into it. I've always secretly wanted a white fox body mustang gt tho, so that might be a possibility. Or maybe another 1g DSM. I dunno.
