<p dir="auto">She downloaded a pretty nasty virus so i just reformatted her hardrive and i have the OS for my Dell laptop which is vista home premium so i just used that and the product key from my old laptop. But vista needs 1 gig to atleast run ok and with my card she has like a total of 767 i think. and its pretty slow...</p>

<p dir="auto">Only if the memory is backward compatible and able to run at the slower speed. Otherwise I think it either wouldn't recognize the memory being in there at all or give a memory error during POST. I think anyway. Like I said, it's been a while.</p>
<p dir="auto">You can buy just the upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium for like $110 online. It's totally worth it. If you can run XP on the machine, you won't need any additional memory to run 7.</p>

Umm i put one in from my old desktop  and i believe it was pc2 but i will double check next time i am around her computer.</p>

Look for a name brand(Micron, Samsung, Kingston), but shit even the "house brand" stuff is usually samsung or even kingston(check return policies, then you can "preview" the RAM chips before being forced into owning it. For a computer old enough to use PC2100, RAM is RAM, as long as you have a warranty or a return policy.</p>

It's been a while, but I think I remember 2100 being a regular DDR memory, as in PC not PC2. PC2 I think is DDR2.</p>
