North Dakota's first road rally set to begin July 29 in Bismarck

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota's first road rally is set to start in Bismarck on July 29.

The ND 500 will cover about 2,500 miles in four states.

Organizer Nic Cruz, owner of CiNcity Designs in Mandan, says he came up with the concept after participating in the TV series "Bull Run" on the Speed Channel.

About 40 two-person teams will be given a checkpoint card at the beginning of each day of the rally with their destination. It will be up to the teams to determine their route, and there will be hidden stops along the way where teams can earn prizes.

The four-day, three-night rally begins in Bismarck with the first stop in Denver, the second in Salt Lake City and the third in Jackson Hole, Wyo., before participants return to Bismarck.
