I bought a 1997 civic EX manual coupe with a spun bearing and a locked up motor. After a week and a half search, I have not been able to find a y8 but rather a y7 from a local junkyard for a good price with a 90 day warranty. I am not interested in modifying this car, but flipping it, and random muggles on craigslist will not care if it has vtec. The original intent was to use the y7 bottom end and the y8 head, but I don't want to go to the trouble of taking the head off if the y7 is good.
Can I use the y7 head and block in an EX without throwing a check engine light? I assume if I use the DX ECU, it wont be searching for vtec oil pressure signal and wont throw a CEL, can anyone verify this for me. Thanks! [/INDENT]
