I'm hoping for some help with a little project this summer.

My diesel bug does not start (reliably) in the winter, unless it's in a garage. With that in mind, I'm planning to wire up two batteries in parallel for twice the current at the same voltage. Has anyone else done this? I'm mostly concerned about how to mount two batteries in the trunk.

While we're on the topic, if I pay someone else to do this, I'll probably want to get some tinting. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You want your cranking battery as close to your starter as possible. And Chris is right. Get the vehicle up to par and if the battery doesnt fit right, get the right oe fit battery first and THEN wire a second battery back there.
Or, you can ignore all that we've been trying to tell you and just do what you want but that alone may not take care of your issues. On a diesel, cranking power is not the only thing you need to worry about.

The bug is a 2006 model.

Relocating the battery seems like the best method of wiring this system because the current battery barely fits under the hood, so the wires are hard to reach. I have a 0 gauge wire that isn't being used for anything, so I might as well just install two batteries back there, and wire them in parallel. Less fuss, less mess, more cranking amperage.

Sounds like you need to look into the glowplugs and cold start aids on the vehicle before adding a battery.

Just install whatever you add in the back.

But, I would add a secondary batter in the back. It would be the same process as what you would do in a bigger car audio install. Pretty basic.
