I know that there weren't a whole lot of us out there, I saw Dubbsy and a few others on the track. I will admit my personal times weren't all that impressive if you look at the 1/4 mile time alone.

First run 15.2 @ 98 mph
2nd run 15.3 @97 mph
etc...
Then I had dave ride w/ me away from the track to sort out some shifting issues I was having (meaning my auto trans wasn't shifting fast enough and I was hitting the rev limiter on every shift). Once we got that figured out things went much better.

14.5 @ 103 mph was about where I was averaging, my best run was 14.45 @ 106.8.

I realized I should REALLY get a Torque Converter in my car before I try racing some more as my 60' times were horrendous, usually between 2.6 and 2.8 seconds (I have one ordered, but I could get one faster if I just pull my stock TC and send it in for modification rather than wait for a new one to be built for me). I'm hoping w/ a good TC I can get those numbers down to 1.6 to 1.8 and thereby getting my car to run mid 12's (assuming you run .2 seconds faster for each .1 second you take off you 60 foot time) which is all I really set out to do anyway this year.

Best light I cut on the right side of things was an .009 (lit the red bulb a bunch unfortunately)....and had some issues with my brakes not holding me at the line (resulting in me coming off the gas trying to reset myself and missing the light...cutting .150 lights)....

Um, when they simulate they have you run the car until the rollers determine you have gone 1320 feet, there is no need to assume 5mt or 4eat, 1320 feet in a certain number of seconds is 1320 feet, regardless of transmission.

Who said it was my first time at the track? I have about 10 weekends under my belt racing 1/8 mile, there is nothing I could do to better my 60' times w/o switching out the TC. As for the 4EAT holding up to the power, Jorge on Nasioc is running over 500WHP to his I believe, all he has is a TC and a Valve Body. For what its worth, I was running faster than the at least one of the STi's at the track that day, I never got a chance to line up against them, but I did pay close attention to their times. Also, I was about on par w/ the EVO that was there as well. I'm assuming that once the TC is in, I should be able to easily reach 110's or higher.

I agree, the 5mt is a better platform for getting raw speed, however having to pay for clutches and a tranny (when it blows up, which everyone seems to have happening if they race them at all) makes getting more power out of my auto seem like a good idea. I drive my car HARD every day, and my tranny is holding up just fine. Consider the fact that I practice launching at least 10-20 launches per week and I think the fact that the transmission is running perfectly (after 32000 miles) yet is enough justification for me running a slushbox. (not that you said it wasn't a good platform, I'm just clarifying why I have one...that and my wife drives my car on a regular basis)

EDIT: According to TXS their 5mt WRX w/ an 18G and FMIC has yet to crack the 11's, best thus far has been 12.11 w/ spray according to Nathan. So for me to be getting close (theoretically, w/ higher stall TC) is a pretty good feeling considering I am w/o spray and probably always will be.

As for running w/ Kirk, sure, I'm all for it, I'm out of town until Friday night (and I don't know what I have going on this weekend for sure...gotta ask the wife). The only deal is we go a full 1/4 mile, I will get STOMPED in a stoplight race, my car doesn't even spool until I get to about 330 feet, my 1/8 mile times have actually decreased compared to stock turbo (by a full second) due to turbo lag presumably.

geez, I am just rambling here, I am making zero excuses about my times, just clarifying what I need to do to make them better.

[[global:guest]]

Reply to Aug 1 Tintmasters Raceday on Tue, 03 Aug 2004 13:52:25 GMT

I thought they simulated a 12.2 run with your current setup at the dyno? Damn that's quite a difference. When they simulated did they assume like a 5mt or a TC? How does the 4EAT respond to TC; as in does it hold quite well considering its still a 4 bolt transmission and flexes quite easily as in the 5mt's? The 60 foots are kind of expected for one of your first times at the track especially with the 4EAT, but with an 18g, FMIC, tuned, I woulda at least expected 110-115 trap speeds.

Just kind of amazing the difference between drivetrains, your car with the mods as is ran those times and I barely ran a high 13 with some crappy 60 foot's (2.0-2.4) with an MBC & TBE alone. (Back in Brainerd where Nick and Kevin gave me a large amount of s*** too for my time)

Keep me posted on the car after the TC/drivetrain work definately wanna see what happens with it. But if your up for a run with maybe Kirk too we can all line up for sure.
