please please please no "gt4/forza sucks," i want some serious defense of why one is better than the other.
if someone has no idea about either game and wants to buy one, the thread should give plenty of advice both ways.
now, my thoughts...
i really like the idea of training the ai driver in forza, but also really like the learning capabilities of the ai in gt4. i haven't experimented with the ai in forza longterm, but i think it has the chance to be very excellent.
the track selection of gt4 is FAR superior to that of forza... but forza has nice uphill and downhill courses. however, gt4 has the test strips and low stress races (meets and family cups)
forza offers motor swaps (13b in a miata? you bet), gt4 offers s/c, turbo and n/a build ups
forza and gt4 both lack realism in hp abilities of many engines (sub 500hp from the 4g63? hello... mcfly?)
i've got other gripes, but i want to know how the rest of you feel... maybe you prefer enthusia to both of them?

whoa.... stability management, traction control and abs? who uses that stuff? in gt3, i used all the driving aids one day to experiment: i ran a faster 1/4 in the fully beefed up rx7 and was faster around every track with everything off in every car.
have you ever played either gt3 or gt4? the ps2 buttons are pressure sensitive, it's not that difficult to get used to, and they're quite accurate (i can hold solid at just about any rpm in any car)

Wow, no i've never played gt4, and really the buttons are pressure sensitve, with all of a 1/8 inch of travel. If you can honestly hold any rpm, and consistently. Well you are a better man than I.

All i was saying is that if you want a "simulation", then forza is right up there, and in my opinion, better that gt4. Now if you wanna race a butt load of diff. cars, well gt4 takes it. The main thing that got me was the online mode. Well that and my preference for the xbox.

And for me it's simple, the game play is solid, the cars are adequate, as are the features, but what makes it easier for me to choose......Online. The racing is smooth, and close. I personally love the triggers........the fact that you can go from 1/4 to full throttle progressively.......and easily....is great. Plus for some of you hardcore guys.....try playing with it all off, sure stm, and traction control is do-able.......but if you shut off the abs.....see how long it take you to learn that you can't just jam on the brake.........otherwise it just locks up and you slide. Pregressive, and smooth...to me that is racing, and forza let's me race like that.

Sorry about my puctuation....i'm a little tired now...maybe i should sleep.

in my opinion, gt4 just has a better feel: excellent pressure sensitive throttle and brake with responsive steering. i couldn't play forza with the original config of the triggers as throttle and brake... yuck. not sensitive enough and too sensitive, especially when i switched them to be the shifters.
all that being said, i'm going to have to say that i think that objectively gt4=forza - just because (as others have stated) each game has it's idiosyncrasies and strengths and weaknesses, ultimately leaving the final decision up to the player as to which is better.
can we agree? i think so.

Forza is the better racer with a very solid list of cars. That being said its not nearly as complete as it could be. Alot of FWD cars were not added or even taken out because they thought their FWD lists were too big. GT4 on the other hand is an eccelent race sim with the biggest car list since GT2. Flip side of that is the car list is messed up. WTF is up with all the 240sx's being called silvias and the silvias being called 240's. and why the heck would you include the 02 Pontiac sunfire concept (nothing against sunfires) and not the Cobalt, or how bout even the Corvette C6. Both have their ups and downs but if I had to choose one I would say Forza
