it had oil in it, and there was a lifter or two that was loose, so i'm not too sure what it was.

That happened on my Z. I was cruisin by best buy, and all the sudden it died, but there was metal on metal grinding too. I pull over, open the hood, and the main seal/bearing had also failed and the crank dropped. lots of smoke from oil getting on hot stuff.
