<![CDATA[Too much HP?]]>I need a question answered, is there too much hp to be legal? Is there a law against a certain number? I say no. If you can't leave a stop light without doing a burnout then you will have problems with the law. My buddy says there is a specific number. Thoughts or a straight up answer would be appreciated.

Thoughts please, I say bs. they sell legal seat delete kits, cruise used to be a factory option, hell you can run with your doors off if you are wearing your seatbelt can't you? (ergo jeeps), I've heard street legal can be as simple as bumpers, taillights, headlights, and blinkers. How about this stuff?

However, there is VERY little chance you will get a ticket for these violations.

ahh yes... our good friend the california air research board... if i remember correctly, the exhaust standard is 93db +/-5? i know there was a question about it on dsmtuners from some dude that received a loud exhuast ticket (along with several other bs items totaling big bucks); he then successfully defended himself in court
the general idea is that anything that will allow ufiltered burnt fuel into the air is not legal

I was going to post almost the exact same response Tony. Also, it is technically illegal to replace a catalytic converter w/ a high flow cat unless the original one has been damaged. Even then (to be legal) it has to pass CARB certification standards. Other things that are illegal are BOV's that vent to atmosphere and exhausts that idle above 97 dB.

Not legal.

If it is illegal why would they sell it? there are some parts that are "off-road only" but that is only if you live in an emission controlled state. If I give a 2002 mustang an aftermarket X-pipe exhaust and delete the cats, you are saying I can be pulled over and ticketed for it? Noise ordinances do not count there are plenty of X-pipes that pass.

Is an officer going to make you put your car on a dyno to prove how much hp your car has? And who gets to pay for that? I don't think that will happen anytime soon. I'm sure if there was a way to guarantee that, there would definately be one or two permanent Dyno's in the F/M area. Think of the $$$ guaranteed to whomever does.
