Well it’s all related to my POS probe. Which I have been trying to get a shop to tune up for me, since I can’t do the timing myself, well I took the advice of a few people on here and dropped it off at straight line. Well they didn’t call me back for a day or two so I was in the area and figured I would stop in. When I got there they told me they took it for a test drive and it died on them so they wouldn’t even work on it. I was a little upset about that, since they said they would. But I figured their choice and got the keys and went to move the car. But when I got in I noticed that my radio was gone. Who ever stole it used a hammer on my dash to get it out, so I’m not sure if I will ever be able to get a dash to fit in right without replacing all of it. But what really irks me is that it was in the possession of straight line and they said they locked it, but when I got to the car it was unlocked, and the hatch wasn’t latched and I couldn’t’ see any sign of forced entry. Personally I’ve never seen any stereo stolen that wasn’t a smash and grab deal. Well I went in and talked to the guys inside and they told me there was nothing they could do about it. They also seemed to not even care. Which really pissed me off? The deck was an eclipse and the warranty covers theft so I guess I’m not out more then the damage to the car. But I am really not impressed with the guys at straight line, since I’m pretty sure they are liable for the whole deal. Just thought I would vent about that because it really pissed me off!

Under ND state law, the only time it is the business owners responsibility is if you are paying specifically for them to store your car for you. If you are not paying for this service then it is not their responsibility. Period. I'm not trying to sound like a dick here, I know it sucks bad when shit like that happens and I do feel for ya, however the law is the law (you can look it up in the ND Century Code...I forget which volume its in, used to know) and under the current circumstances SLS is not responsible for vehicle theft/vandalism for any car that is left unattended in their parking lot unless said vehicle is paying rent for storage space in said lot as then the business owner would be in fact providing that service to you.

Just to clarify and make sure people don't think I was accusing SLS of stealing anything. I wasn't. Just when I was running up possible suspects in my head and them scratching them off they were one. But they are as likely to steal it as me. And as for the "owner" of the car, I only have one set of keys, never have lost a key or locked them in a vehicle so I guess I've just been taking my chances for years not having spares. In all honesty at this point I have no clue who did it. but like I said before I was happy there was no forced entry and I'm out nothing. Thats why I felt no reason to push the issue beyond just blowing off alittle steam on here. I filed a police report, just so there was an insurance record, talked to the guys at SLS and pretty much covered all my bases just in case of anything getting worse. but personally I think maybe SLS would want to throw a camera up or something. then they could catch the people that steal stuff. atleast then hopefully they would be less of an inviting target... but I'm not a bussiness owner I don't know if that is somethign that would be cost effective, more so just piece of mind.

oh yeah, to the person that said something about rigging up a gun in their car, I hope you were kidding because that is very illeagle and would wind you in jail if not worse. So yeah, bad idea man!

Haha you seriously have no idea, and probably should quit talking.

I can count a few things getting stolen out of Nick's personal vehicles sitting outside of his store. Cars have been broken into at probably every shop in this town.

You want to know the big thing, and something that we dealt with at Roadsounds in Minot too... Customer cars left on the premises should have everything of value removed before dropping the vehicle off. Common sense says dont' leave your radios face plate on, don't leave your cds on the seat, dont leave money laying out.

It is NOT the shops responsiblity to push EVERY CAR in and out every night that does not run. That's what parking lots are for.
