It just started doing this today.  The coolant level is good and doesn't show any signs of oil contamination, and the oil smells like oil, not burnt coolant, so i don't think the headgasket went.  I am thinking maybe the water pump has stopped working, which will require a timing job pretty much to fix.   Is there anything else maybe simpler I could check for? any help is appreciated.  Is there any way to tell if the water pump is bad other that just taking it off and replacing it?  thanks.  yeesh, hopefully this won't take long so I can get the dsm running before too long.</p>

If it only overheats while sitting still it could just be the fan.</p>

Just do it quickly before you ruin the head.</p>

Is your thermostat opening<br />
white smoke out of the exhaust<br />
You could pressure test the cooling system<br />
air in the system<br />
just some suggestions and things to look for</p>
