I am opting out of buys a turbo kit for my car, since I already have 25-50% of the parts that it would come with. but being as I've never done this before are there any things you guys can think of that might be overlooked by a rookie? my main goal is to just get a bigger turbo on it by spring thinking of a t3/4o3 with an external wastegate. any idea's would be great even if they are basic.

It's suspected that the guy selling them stole someone else's work, so who knows how much he can and can't do with the ECU program. He has no dyno results, and I wouldn't trust that chip to have the right settings for fuel and spark with more airflow from a bigger turbo.

You'll also want to upgrade your fuel injectors. Since you are going with Megasquirt(hint, hint), you can do that upgrade easily. Now that we're on that subject, it would be helpful to know what kind of horsepower figure you want for your max boost. It's helpful for shopping for injectors.

I read on the stuff about that chip that the factory fuel system could handle the change. any other area's that I need to look into?
This is the eBay chip I was talking about. Based on the description, I'm guessing it's a direct ripoff of the InjectTech chip.

I don't know of anyone that can reprogram the 89-92 Probe GT ECU for a custom application. I recommend going with Megasquirt. There is a company that has someone who has made it work with both fuel and spark control using the stock distributor. www.prdonline.com

There's always the old FPR+FMU option, but again, I don't think that's a good idea. Yeah, a million people use FMUs, but a standalone is so much more precise.

Oh, by the way, I have never seen the Racing Mazda kit on any 1st-gen Probe.

One of them has been called the "RX-7 upgrade", and I haven't seen that for years. Matt Faul(Fallguy) used to have that. The other one is the "T-bird upgrade", and I believe that involves taking a compressor wheel from a Thunderbird turbocharger and modifying your stock turbo to use that. Neither of these upgrades are very major, but they do still require tuning.

Speaking of tuning, you can do it the rough way with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and an FMU, or do it the right way and get a standalone electronic management system. Both ways require tuning either on a dyno or on the road with a wideband oxygen sensor. Because of the VAF, your car can't use an Apexi S-AFC or a Split Second ARC-2.

Where did you find that turbo kit for sale?

Unless you have it set up to recirculate, it will vent air that has already been measured by the VAF. This is well known to cause backfiring, as well as reducing fuel economy.

.46 A/R compressor; .63 A/R turbine
TiaL 35mm external wastegate
Autometer Ultra-Lite or Phantom series boost gauge

that is the main components they list and I already have a BOV, 2.5" intercooler piping and the intercooler so I'm thinking it is gonna be cheaper to get all the parts that I don't already have, instead of buying the kit.
