My options are limited money-wise so the advice cant include NEW CAR, etc.  Something affordable so i wont kill myself (and my passengers) in the winter.</p>

<p dir="auto">Oh ya, i only had one sand bag in the back too.  i didnt slide much, it just took me forever to start moving from a stop, the rear tires would spin, spin, and spin some more.  Also, this was my first time really driving in the winter was last year, first car too.  HA HA</p>

<p dir="auto">To the thread starter, you seriously need to be careful. Spinning the tires on slippery roads in the winter here can lead to a very bad situation before you even realize what has happend.</p>

<p dir="auto">I agree on all of these.  I had an 87 300zx and it was a pain to drive without snow tires.  I had sand, light right foot, and a set of R compound tires(very bad for winter).</p>

You'll need 4 snow tires though as just using 2 is very risky. You do want to be able to turn safely, right?</p>
