My dad's duramax gets 14-17mpg pulling a car at about 80mph and better empty obviously.  With a gas 3/4 ton truck, you would be extremely lucky to get close to 10mpg in the same situation.</p>
<p dir="auto">Diesels have higher initial costs, and lately higher fuel costs.  But, things even out after awhile.  So, it just comes down to what you want.  There is something sweet about having that turbo whine when you slam the throttle down...</p>
