Response time is horrible... Ive heard from a few others its like this right now too...

It seems they have weekly problems! Is it just moorhead, or are people in Fargo getting it too?

However we guarentee 1024 so that we don't "oversell" ourselves. I could be like cableone and say "up to 3 mbit" and never guarentee anything. 🙂

Now that I'm in a house and in a less populated area, it's great. That said, it is no quicker if not slower than the 512k up/down DSL line we have at work for normal browsing.

Cable is shared in your location, DSL is not "shared" in the same sense but all of them eventually battle for bandwidth as you move up the chain. But with DSL your slow down is almost never between you and your ISP.

Hm I have 5MB down from uswest. I havent had any problems. I also have dsl from work ideaone no problems there. DSL all depends on how far away you are and all copper isnt equal.

Cableone has about the same or more problems with their internet. I wouldnt say their better then uswest. I dont like sharing my bandwith with my neighbors so I have dsl.

It's pretty easy to get hooked up to cable for free. I wouldnt pay for their cable if I was dieing.

You do understand that cable is shared. So if you neighbors are on it. It brings the speed down.

It'll go down for hours then pop online for minutes, then back down again. Cableone said "they'd call us" to let us know when they could send someone out to fix it. Well fuck that. I do heavy downloading so I'd rather suffer a 1/2 second for a page to load vs. twice the amt for a large file to download.. just my thoughts..

(anyone know how to make it so it doesnt startplay thell the vid is done loading? or something like that)

Other Cable companies may have mroe than 500kbps, I haven't really looked over that, however, I was on a 5meg cable server and did a speed test, and it was quite higher than what I expected, 5 megabits was almost 5 megabits, while cable1 is more like 4 megabits is 5 megabits, and that is on slow times.

Cable vs. DSL has alot of factors.

Generally speaking cable offers higher amounts of bandwidth but is not guarnteed that you will get them (as they are shared).

DSL will give you the full alloted amount, and WAY WAY WAY faster response times.

Depending on what you use the internet for, a 1.5mbps DSl connection could feel way faster then a 4mbps cable connection if you just surf the net.
