A driver died Tuesday afternoon on Semoran Boulevard in what Orlando police called a street-racing crash.

The speed had not been determined by late in the day, but skid marks and car parts strewn across 400 feet showed the black Acura RSX-S rolled over numerous times before striking an oncoming car.

Police pointed to the driver's body trapped in the wreckage as the reason why street racing and aggressive driving are deadly threats to Central Florida motorists.

"Kids and adults who drive like this, they put everybody at risk," police Sgt. Barbara Jones said. "This is a horrific crash right here. I don't know how to describe it any other way."

Semoran's northbound lanes between Lake Margaret Drive and Michigan Street remained closed to traffic from 2:10 to 5:30 p.m.

The black Acura and a dark-green Acura were speeding southbound when the black car swerved out of the middle lane to avoid hitting another car, according to police reports.

"I saw him in the rear-view mirror and had a feeling like something was going to happen," said Casey Ward, 19, who was in front of the black car when it started to skid. "He looked like he tried to recover. He hit the median [curb] and BAM! It was all over."

On the opposite side of the grassy divider, Damian Maldonado was driving northbound when the tumbling black car struck a white Honda Accord directly in front of him.

"A body came out of the back window and probably went 25 feet in the air. He landed on the windshield and hood of the white car," said Maldonado, 32, of Casselberry, a sergeant in the Army Reserves who rendered first aid. "He started moving, tried to walk and then dropped to the ground."

The driver of the Honda, Debora Sheridan, was not injured, police said.

She would not comment, telling police what she saw had been too emotionally stressful. The windshield and hood of her car were covered with blood.

The Acura's passengers, Ronald Brown, 19, and Jose Espitia, 18, both of Orlando, were rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they were treated and released, police said.

The dead driver's parents showed up at the crash scene about 4 p.m. after hearing news reports that a sporty black Acura had been involved. Police confirmed that the driver was their 18-year-old son, Shawn Michael Broadoas.

Police were searching for the driver of the other car late Tuesday. It was described as a dark-green Acura with dark-tinted windows and a spoiler, possibly with crash damage to its front end.
