<![CDATA[new hard drive]]>just got a new OEM hard drive online. i connected the power and sata cable. When i turn the computer on it takes like around 2 minutes to start the computer and I hear clicking noise coming from the new hard drive. Is that normal? I just got it yesturday and I didn't drop it or shock it. When I go into my computer it seems like it didn't read the hard drive. I know bout master and slave drive but first it should be detected in order to do that right? My computer is almost brand new, i heard newer computers should auto-detect it but it didn't. I looked at the hard drive's web page and i did what it told me to do and it won't read it either. i'm pisst because it seems like i have a defected kind. Anybody have any ideas? thanks a lot!

Check your computer manufacturer's website and see if there are any bios updates available. If so, it might provide support for bigger drives (usually the updates and fixes are posted, read through those and see). Please be careful updating your bios if you choose to do so.

Yes, i did BIOS settings and checked if I enabled the auto-detect already. I saw that it found my orginal HD but have not for the new one. It's an OEM HD so I don't think it comes with any CDs to install it. I also did download a boot-up HD disc online and still no luck. I want to use the new HD as storage and my orginal as boot device.

Well...i asked one of my co-worker and he said "having 500gig is a problem and it's too big to auto-detect." He said I have to set my computer manually. I was like wtf? is that true?

I experienced nearly the same symptoms as you described and mine works flawlessly now.
