I have heard of guys planning on doing 13:1 but never seen it done. It is a big advantage for all motor if you build it with higher compression with the intentions of running E85.

It is ~105 octane and is oxygenated (I believe) so whatever amount of compression you can run normally with 105 octane gas w/o knock/ping/detonation

After a friend of mine tuned his car on it I saw some of the benifits... The higher octane means more boost over running premium... Sure race gas is better, but when u use the car for daily driving and going out of town, e85 seems like a better choice... I dont see very many places when u go out of town on a trip where u can fill up race gas whenever u'd be running low, however there's a lot of towns, even little ones that have e85 at the pump... I'd rather use that than either A) run out of gas or B) carry a gas can with race gas wherever u go... As for using much more fuel when running on e85... he didnt loose very many mpg

if your car runs like shit when you switched over to E85 then youre doing something wrong. you have to have less than 10% of a tank of fuel and then you have to put in a FULL tank of gas. the fuel eye needs to read more than 35% ethanol or it wont switch over to ethanol maps let alone correct for it.

The problem with most Anti-Ethanol website links are they are outdated information, your top link is from 2004, so 4 year old information, and your bottom link is from 1995, a 13 year old source. The cost of ethanol has decreased significantly every year. I will find some papers that i wrote about ethanol that showed how much the cost to produce had decreased in a short period of time.
