It seems the scene in Fargo has pretty much solely died off other then the ricer crowd who is still interested in the flashy body kits, neon lights and big wings. So what is it this year that has people not interested in the performance capabilities of their car?? Are people lacking $$? Are they just not interested? Or do they just not care?

From the looks of it the track is about ready to shut down w/ the weal 50 car attendances lately and even worse on regular bracket weekends. Not many locally are doing any custom turbo builds, motor builds, etc.. Everytime we head out to the track i dont see any cars out there putting up any times, everytime we bring the dyno to town i dont see any people putting down any #'s, why is this? I've been pretty across the whole midwest this summer and the markets are going strong everywhere it seems except ND. What do we need to do to spark some interest in people attending track events and get some people to start doing some performance based builds rather then body kits, neon lights, and big ugly chrome wheels? We are sending turbo kits nation wide but really none locally and we'd like to change this and see something start to change locally and see some people start to show up again @ the street legal events. We got 3 weeks before the next event so lets get something going!

It just got kinda old, and was tired of always wrenching on stuff. It did start to seem that no one really cared anymore how fast your car was. The scene really drifted over to the ricers and that group mainly consisted of bosnians. So I pretty much said screw it and got back into the trucks. I got a Tacoma double cab TRD. I figure if I have to pick between being associated with hicks or bosnians I am hick all the way! Seriously everytime I see a little import car or DSM or Avenger I think here comes a bosnian. Especially if it has a loud fart can and a wing. Anyway thats pretty much my reason for leaving the scene. That and the rohatery drained my wallet LOL.

It's cool, KA's and CA's have the same tranny bolt pattern. Not sure if that only applies to pignose years (since those were the CA years) or not. But yeah, I've got a sohc auto already, so I'll be needing the 5 speed. I've got everything I need for the swap, but I sold the 5 speed out of the white car with the motor, for some reason.

Six weeks!

Bought a CA18 motorset today with a crazy head port job, brand new OEM bottom end and larger injectors, just gotta get the right manifold for my S15 turbo (has a T3 flange, but I need a T28 flange, if anyone knows of anyone selling one, and no knockoffs, period), and a few other things. Jon, I might need a transmission if you've got one. I've already sourced a wiring harness, and that just leaves the intercooler setup and a few easily acquirable misc parts. All depends if I can go overseas again this winter. The way it stands, it won't be done this year before the snow hits. And it will need paint, too. Not bringing that thing out in half yellow, 1/4 gray, 1/4 black that it is now.

I'll be out and about at the races though.

MisterCMK wrote:
Also, most people have cars that are set up for drag or road race. I know I won't drift with my car.

Funny you should say that, because drift cars are setup damn near the same as road racing cars. You have to pay attention to the overall balance of the car, and can't just focus on power. Same safety regulations, same handling characteristics, downforce (on the cars going fast enough to need it), suspension is the same, and they use the same street radials that I use for autocrossing! Remember, there's no super dorifto tire, the Falken 615 you can buy is the same tire the pros use, same goes for all the other brands.

Drifting isn't about getting sideways and roasting tires like people think. Is it really racing? Of course not. It's nothing more than a car show, except the cars actually do something other than get loaded on and off a trailer and parked with a bunch of cotton balls stuffed under the side skirts.

But the thing is, you have to know your car and be able to properly control it. All those saying drifting is gay, how many events have you attended? Have you gone to D1GP, Formula D, or any other sort of organized events? Or have you just been watching the videos of kids sticking trays under their Civic's rear end and being a bunch of idiots? I'm no pro drifter, hell, I suck at it, but it doesn't mean I'm NOT going to try to bring organized events to the area. And it doesn't have to be RWD! Just not FWD! There's been AWD cars in D1 in previous years, but they banned that drivetrain after the JUN Super Lemon Evo V came fresh out of it's build up and took the event at Suzuka.

And honestly, what kind of domestic car owner doesn't like burning rubber?! That shit's therapeutic! Nothing better than the smell of roasted tires and C16, in my world!

But seriously, it's one of those things that you can't watch it on TV and judge it from only that source. Get to some of the events in Minnesota! I'd be there, S13 or not if I weren't deployed right now. It doesn't take gobs of cash like everyone thinks. Tires and your drivetrain is what takes the worst of it, but I'm sure y'all know, that with the right money invested initially, the drivetrain can take whatever gets thrown at it.

Some of this kinda got covered on that intro thread on the TM site (some of y'all know which one I'm referring to). Yes, the drift scene is practically non existant in ND. But I know there's enough people interested to make at least 2 events happen a year. There's no reason we shouldn't explore the options to make this happen. The less it's on the street, the better it is for us in the end, and it shows the city that we're trying to keep it legal.

Not condoning/glorifying it, but that's how it ends up when the kids have nowhere to go practice.

I'd love to have a place to go practice, even if it's 2 hours away. I mean, there HAS to be a large enough parking lot that doesn't get used much/at all in the area that would suit for what we would need. It's something I'm going to want to look into over this winter, because in all honesty, it's just another way to draw more people into the scene, and also create the comraderie among drivers. And it lessens the chance of me getting an exhibition ticket. I've had enough close calls with that in the last year.
