I was trying to think of ways to make a couple extra mbucks while i'm at home. Buying a vinyl cutter and selling decals on ebay and possibly starting a website crossed my mind, and I found a vinyl cutter for really cheap. Good idea or not?

Joel if I were you I would skip a cutter and buy a vinyl printer. Then you don't have to worry about having 100 colors of vinyl. Or the mess that comes with layering colors.

Jon is right you really need to buy quaitly vinyl, and I learned that the hard way. Cheap vinyl gets hard and breaks after a while. I got some great stuff these days!

Really though it's going to very hard to make $5,000 bucks worth of vinyl inorder topay off your cutter/materials/computer programs..

These are the ones I had made for my site. And Joel, I'm needing to redesign them, and I'll be looking for someone to print them off. If you get this plotter, I'll come to you for them. I usually print off a batch of about 100 each time.

I have a cousin who used to run a sign shop in Minot that will attest to this. Not saying buy the most expensive, but I think a decent one will still run you about $650 give/take.....now if you can find a vinyl printer/plotter combo, you might be able to rake in money faster. Just a thought.

You're going to have to have prices or new designs that make you competitive with the other thousands of people that are selling decals on ebay - which means having someone to design good quality pieces.

You're also going to need software to do the designing.

I seriously considered doing this before I did the study (it was for a class) but I talked myself out of it.

You gotta advertise, find buyers, practce cuting vinyl, etc. You could make it work though.
