]]>https://fargostreet.com/post/146694https://fargostreet.com/post/146694Wed, 28 Feb 2007 02:10:32 GMT<![CDATA[Reply to steering wheel on Sun, 18 Feb 2007 01:13:45 GMT]]>typicaly the air bag unit is bolted in from the back of the wheel, look behind the steering wheel there should be 4 holes on the back side of the wheel, inside the holes there probaly like a 10mm head nut down inside it, take all 4 nuts out then pull on the air bag unit, it should fall right out, unplug the air bag ( u can disconnect the battery if u want) set air bag down then remove center big nut

now this is the tricky part u will have to go buy or bourrow a steering wheel puller typicaly the puller looks like the shape of a Y with slots in it and a big bolt in the center, put the big bolt on the the center or the stud of the steering wheel then use some bolts that thread into the little holes of the steering wheel itself, after u have the 3 bolts evenly threaded in begin to tighten the center large bolt of the puller, this will push against the steering shaft stud while pulling on the wheel and eventualy it with pull it off after turning it for a while

or u can do it the fast way thats kind of an old mechanics trick, get a air hammer with the pointy tip jump in the car with the air hammer and push out on the steering wheel with ur knees the use one hand to pull on the top of the wheel, then use ur pointy tip of the air hammer to hammer on the the center steering shaft stud, u will probaly have to pull like a son of a bitch but it typicaly comes off pretty easy, i would reccomend to have the retaining nut threadrd on a few time so u dont mushroom the end of the steering shaft stud when air hammering, if u do this ur pretty much fucked so maybe u should use the puller

hope this helps, oh and be carful the threads are pretty fine on the steering shaft stud and they are very easy to mess up so probably stay away from the air hammer

Sell air bag unit over ta intranet

Oh yeah, if you turn your tire while pulling the steering, you'll have a hell of a time getting everything lined up

If you don't have a steering wheel puller then pull really fucking hard and make sure it comes off straight (good luck with this option). 🙂
