im still waiting to hear about that switch. the guy who owns it goes to school in NY, so he would have to ship it here. its been used in many many lan parties and works great. im guessing he'll probably want around 200 for it. just a guess though.

well jim, to give you an idea about how old equipment works for networking...
a couple of my friends use a 386 for their firewall. at my place, we have an athlon 1ghz running at 750 because of faulty (or mislabeled) ram; this computer records television, serves videos and music to the mini-pc that runs freevo, not to mention plays fileserver for the rest of the network. it runs with an asus a7m266 motherboard (top'o the line when i bought it) and could probably be a pretty nasty beast with a faster processor and 1gb of ddr

its always fun to take old 386's or older cpu's and set them up as dedicated routers for LAN's as well. Lot less bandwidth loss then compared to an el cheapo linksys router/switch.

i have a box full of parts from a couple 486's i took apart. a bunch of ram, a couple heat sinks, a couple power supplies, a combination 3 1/2" / 5 1/4" drive. a dual speed cd rom drive, and i think an actual 486 processor along with some other junk. lemme know if you want any of it. its just sitting in my closet.

I have a ABIT NF7-M mobo, no proc, no ram and it seems to have a faulty floppy controller. This is an AMD board, nForce2 chipset, and was running a 2700+. Interested?

😕 never noticed a BW loss from them. Some linksys routers are running linux BTW.
