that would be an awsome choice. kirk what u get now with your toys?

do i dare say awd dsm, but kept stock. also 97-02 grand prix gtp's are nice cars, get good mileage, good power and there are plently on basic mods available to have yourself a decent little DD toy. and if you were considering vehicles othere then cars jeep wrangles or grand cherokee

PM me for:
Sandblasting(I use glass beads)
Diesel repairs or performance products.

I had a 91 quattro 20v car that was awesome in the winter...and they look good too...and are less than 3k...how bout like an older S4 man (93-94ish)?...that'd be pimp...they are less than 10k normally

I'm have to plug subaru. Impreza's are great, but Legacys and Foresters are also great. I DD a legacy and am building a 2.5RS. Here's the kicker:

ALL 93 -01 SUBARU ENGINE BLOCKS, TRANSMISSIONS AND DRITVETRAINS ARE LEGOS FOR SWAPPING

you can take a 4000 dollar legacy and put a JDM 2Ltr (japans early WRX models) with 250 whp in it for 3k

if you don't want power they're still very nice and reliable cars, AWD rocks winters socks off, plus older model parts are cheap.

PSI said RS engine ej25 = sti engine block and thats true, so all Sti mods work, but the tranny and drive train won't hold if you push it too far, plus for comfort the impreza is a little small,

I really suggest a legacy or legacy wagon

FYI gas mileage on a 03 legacy wagon m/t is about 24 in town, getting on towards 30 highway if you baby it.

Responding to the 2 things in BOLD type:

All JDM WRX/STi's come stock with EJ20's...including the Spec-C. The exception was the 22B. A JDM 2.0 liter block is day and night different than a USDM ej20 in that it is a much thicker walled block than what they sent us on this side of the big pond.

The 2.5 RS, while utilizing the same displacement as an STi, is not the same motor. The 2.5 RS uses an open deck 2.5 liter high(er) compression setup, whereas the EJ257 found in the STi is a semi-closed deck design, using a more boost friendly, lower compression setup.

Other than that, all external parts will bolt right up from any of the current 4 cylinder subaru's.

^^^
quite right, after i posted i thought about editing for a more thurough ex. but opted not to as it's really just about the car instead of engine...

though i was under the impression that the 00 and 01 2.5 rs block was a match up for the Sti v7 obviously i was wrong

I don't understand why you responded to the 2 ltr engine part, you can put a JDM 2.0 Sti into a legacy for 3K if you do the wiring yourself and search for a good deal, the engine wall difference is why i simply said JDM instead of JDM/USDM 2 ltr i don't know why anyone would want a USDM 2.0ltr over JDM (as i've also found them to be more expensive) and the tranny that comes with the earlier model 02-04 (i think) is made of cheap handblown korean glass

I apologize if this is thread whoring

edit: i figured the 2 ltr thing out, the "earlier japan WRX engine" i meant pre-98 22b as the engine non R/A can be imported cheaply, though the 22b :icon_thumleft: drool

I was just correcting the "Japans early WRX models" part...almost all of them came with the ej20 and still do to this day, reason being, you can't run an engine larger than 2.0 liters in WRC so they keep their bad ass high reving 2.0 liter in their cars over there. You are correct, it will work fine however and is a GREAT choice.

I think I would like a 4 door car again.

EDIT, Also, I have been looking at GTP's, SC'd rivs, SC'd Regals, but around here they are priced very high and a lot of them have a ton of miles. Plus, I don't like the interior of the GTP's.

I'm going to look into a 2.5RS, I think it ight be a good choice.

I have been looking at saller SUV's, like Durango's, since with gas prices you can get them for dan cheap. However, The gas mileage SUCKS on one of those.

I think I'm going to really consider a 2.5 RS. I want something safe in the winter, and something I can go hunting in. We usually just go pheasant or grouse hunting, so I just need something that will do well on snow covered dirt roads witht he very occasional "Off-roading" if you will.

Like the color, and the 2000-01 are my favorite body styles in the RS. As long as everything is ship shape with it having that rebuild title looks like a great deal.

I don't know if I would want an automatic or not, thats the only problem.

Find a 5gen or a 5.5gen maxima with a 6 speed. Very comfortable cars, alright mileage and they have some great around town power to boot.

You'll be happy with that as long as its not a auto.

I must say I do love the Durango in the show. The only downfall to ours is its full-time 4wd which even with the small engine, gets 14 in town and 18 on the highway. In the winter tho, 4WD LOCK FTW!!! We've never had any problems with it and they are relatively cheap. I actually almost bought one for myself after my parents got theirs.

The only think that is keeping me from getting a durango is the gas mileage. I found a 2000, with under 80K that I talked him down to $7K. That is a damn good deal if you ask me. He told me he has had a hard time selling it because of the price of gas.

Also, I've been thinking that maybe an auto isn't such a bad idea. From I've been reading in the past couple of days, the auto's are stronger than the manuals, and people have less problems with them. That might be a plus because I am looking at this car to be reliable. I have the Trans Am for fun when I want it. Plus, the GF would be able to drive it (hasn't driven a stick YET).

But....slamming gears sure is fun......

95TSi, are you selling your VR4 already?

Nope.

I will also vote for a durango, I had a 98 and loved it, wish I wouldnt of sold it.

Didn't paying for gas on it suck though? Thas the only thing preventing me from getting a durango.

In stock form, the auto is a little stronger in a 2.5 RS than a 5 speed, however a 5 speed is much easier to rebuild if it does break....and more fun to drive.

I'd recommend the 5 speed, and this is coming from someone with a built auto.
