    What is a 6 bolt swap? I am doing all this research and I keep seeing this 6 bolt swap. What is that all about?

      1st Gen DSM's have the prefered 6bolt 4G63 block in that it is not prone to crank walk, unlike 2nd Gen DSM's which are 7bolt 4G63's. I'm by no means a DSM guru, and there are many on this board with vast amounts of knowledge in that category....that is the very abridged answer to your question however.

      IIRC, the 2G dsm has superior pistons though.

        6 bolt = motor from 1st gen(90-94) eclipse/talon/lazer
        7 bolt = Motor from 2nd Gen(95-99) eclipse/talon
        This number refers to how many flywheel bolts hold the flywheel to the crankshaft.

          Wrong. 6 bolt motor=1st gen motor from 89-92.5
          7 bolt motor=1st and 2nd gen motor from 92.5-99

              Couple of more questions, what is Crank walking, and this may be a dumb question but what does "DSM" stand for?

                DSM - Diamond Star Motors....nice the mitsu sign

                crank walk means your crank is moving up and down or side to side and it shouldnt be....just a short definition.

                  Crankwalk is when the thrust bearing gets worn out due to shitty manufacturing tolerances and shitty parts (crank, block, bearings), and the crankshaft gets pushed around by the clutch. There's no up and down movement, that happens when you spin main bearings, but it's side to side play.

                    Nice picture, made me laugh my ass off. More specific, crank walk is side to side LATERALLY (length wise) with the block, otherwise would be spinning the bearings too.

                      oh I see... So as far as the 6 bolt and 7 bolt which is better to have and is on more powerful than the other? Hope I am not annoying anyone... Lol

                        6 bolt. It isn't "more powerful" as such, but it can take a better beating.

                          the 6 bolt is prefered since it tends not to have the crankwalk issues.

                                  "Nearly" crankwalk proof...lol.....that's ok...sounds like torbs has a good deal for me so it sounds like torbs's 3 year project is going to be my 3 month project. Dad is an aircraft mechanic and a major gear head so it sounds like I might be able to get the motor/transmission put in fairly soon as soon as I get down there. I'm stoked...lol
