Qwest DSL...w/ MSN

Is quite possibly the worst highspeed service known to man. Thank GOD I didn't cancel my cableone account yet. Long story short...3 hours on phone w/ tech support just to get the service running, speaking to some dude from India who barely spoke Engrish. Got the service up and running and noone can tell me how to add email AND they tell me that newsgroups are flat out not supported. WTF? Peoplepc supports newsgroups for god sake! Ping times to everfrost.everquest2.com are in the 120-130 ms range and to www.pcpitstop.com are in the 80-90 ms range....when I switch to cable my pings are 70-80 for everfrost.everquest2.com and in the mid 30's for pcpitstop. Sheer download speed sucks as well. Using bandwidthplace.com as my point of reference, the BEST DSL dl's that I've seen are 700 Kbs (I should have 3-5 Mbs). In comparison, cableone dl's at about 3.4-4.5 Mbs when I should have 3Mbs. Don't even get me started on uploads....uploads are NASTY slow w/ DSL (like 50Kbs) making the 786 Kbs of cable seem like god himself was sending the files up.
I guess what I learned today was that I shouldn't bitch about what I have as it is probably better than what I can get anyways.

i havent had problems with it. i currently use gomoorhead, questw/msn, and cableone(by far the fastest but its 3mg) not sure on the others. all though gomoorhead is starting to suck on dowloading stuff/loading movies, but in the less traffic times(morning and early afternoon, then it just got slow) its good

I have cableone; I think it has the fastest speed for the general public; if there was another option that didn't cost an arm/leg; I'd probably hop on that. Pings on FPS games vary, depending on server, but for the most part, don't go over 100.. (unless you hit UK) according to toast.net; w/ several tests from other servers; I have around 3-5megabits/sec, I've seen 500+KB/s downloads
I had DSL prior, but in the cities.. The pings were better, and the D/Ls were only about 220kb/s, 1.5mb/s... Pings on more general servers for FPS were way better, but sharing Upload stream with Download came to be an annoying thing.. Get 3 people or so on the wireless and it would be quite slow. At least here, w/ Cable1, 3 ppl on the network isn't so bad. -

Sucks for you I guess! I have 1.5mb from uswest. I get speeds up to 1.6mb! Im happy all dsl isnt equal. I dont care how fast cableone is your sharing it with your neighbors. Just wait till the kid next door whats to download some farm fetish videos kiss your speed goodbye.

Never struck me as being slower yet, so I'm not going to complain if it does happen to be slow 1 night; I won't cry about it.. since overall it's just faster.

Just wait till the kid next door whats to download some farm fetish videos kiss your speed goodbye.Ummm...I'm pretty familiar w/ how cableone works, I've had their cablemodem service for 6 years now in 2 different locations in town and can honestly say that I've yet to see that bottleneck affect that you speak of. Not to say that I haven't had some slow times in the past few months (which was why I wanted to switch...well that and Dave Barge is an ass) but the past 2 months have been pretty good since they upgraded all their head end equipment and nearly tripled the bandwidth in many areas so they will be ready for their VoIP service that they're starting next year.

When we had Qwest ahwile ago it sucked.Slows as hell and would disconnect for no reason.Cableone i have almost always been happy with. They do have there days/hours with no service but i feel thats acceptable.

Oh yeah...the other reason I hate qwest/msn DSL......SPAM UP THE ASS!
I created an email account when I set up service, by the following morning I had 137 spam emails that made it through the filter. this was on a new account that had never been used for anything on the web.

Switch to CTUSA for your ISP via Qwest and then it comes from me.
