so when u put the bolts in the flex plate and tightened them did it pull the converter to the flew plate?

when installing a converter there is usualy three sets of splines on the input shaft normally u have to spin the converter as u push in on it untill it pushes in all the way in
you will know for sure if its in all the way when u bolt it up to the tranny and there is about a 1/4 inch space between the flex plate and converter bolt holes
if u dont have the converter lined up on all the splines and force the tranny onto the motor it will push on the main pump and usualy cause noise, a leak or the pump to go out

not saying this is the case but its possible

sometimes manual valve body trannys will make a wierd noise when u put it in a gear i think its the solinoids clicking or something, but it shouldnt make the noise for more then a sec or so

    i hope this helps

what kinda vehicle is this in? we ran into a noise like this recently and it ended up being the harmonic balancer (3.8 liter). Weird that it doesn't do it in reverse, but there maybe enough of a different load to cause this. Also, it might possibly be the parking pawl in the transmission.....but i havn't had an auto tranny apart in so long that I dont remember exactly what is going on. I try and stay away from tranny work. Goodluck.

There is ~1/8-1/4 inch of space between the flexplate and the converter.

It's not a manual valve body tranny, or at least, thats not what I ordered.

Wouldn't it act the same way in reverse as it would in the foreward gears?

I was also told it might be a bad check valve....

I am about a week away from setting y damn car on fire. I shouldn't have a problem like this.

I think I figured it out. I just got off the phone with my tranny builder, he told me the tranny is running fine if the noise isn't happening in reverse, neutral, or park. He said 99.99% of the time when he gets this call, it is an exhaust leak, and when the load on the tranny changes, the exhaust leak pitch changes, which makes sense because the clicking isn't consistant with the driveshaft or wheels turning, but more the rotation of the engine. I will see tomarow if this is the case.

          God I hope so, lol.

well it doesnt sound like a simple problem, have u driven the car yet? have u talked to the place u got it from? me and trannys dont get along very well so ill probly not give u to much usefull info

if u get a chance call dallas at kennedy transmission maybe swing it by and have him give u an opinion he's has fixed some cars for me over the phone, he know his stuff and he's pretty good about not charging u for his opinion

Yeah, my tranny guy is pretty knowledgable. I havn't driven it. He told me if it were the pump, or anything in the transmission, it would make the sae noise in revers, N, or P. I'm going to double check for an exhaust leak tomarow.

Not an exhaust leak, definetly something at the front of the transmission.

I think I may have. I talked to another tranny builder and he said the it being up in the air, and the front end being about 4 inches higher than the rear may be the result. He thinks it may just be a bad angle for the DS. We'll see in about half an hour.

Nope, still a busted peice of shit! god damn it!

Any other ideas? I had another person tell me to take it to dallas, but I don't want to drive the damn thing over there, AND I don't want to pay $400 for something that is probably really stupid.

                          IT LIVES!

It was the parking pawl. My buddies dad diagnosed it within 15 seconds of looking at it. He build mostly FWD chrystler engines.

Pulled the pan, moved it about 2 mm, and she runs great! Too bad there are no more races this year....

That weekend is bracket racing, not heads up street legal. Just so you are aware of what type of event that will be.
