        Hell, I would drive the couger as a winter beater, then buy a wreck, or a project so you can build something respectable over time, instead of dumping s lot of money into a pile of crap.

          I am not saying anything bad about your cougar, its good that you enjoy what you drive. My question is, what do you honestly expect to buy for 2500 dollars that would be considered a "nice car" or a car for an "enthusiest" that is in mint condition and exactly what you want? there is a difference between 2500 dollar project cars and 2500 dollar cars.

            Honestly, you are really misguided. An old Supra is expensive for replacement parts? IDK man, I bought a GOOD torque converter for my MKIV Supra and it was only $50. MKIV Supra's are WAY more expensive than MKIII's. Educate yourself with imports before saying that they are so expensive to fix that you might as well scrap them.

            At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

              I agree on the not your style thing, that is important (to me) in any car. But with the Legacy Sport Turbo, I don't think you'll find a better motor for reliability AND power capabilities....closed deck block, turbo 2.2 liter w/ instant spool, awd from a company that is known for its superior AWD platform, TONS of cheap replacement parts available...unless you blow the motor (HIGHLY unlikely), then the ej22t block will set you back about $1600 from subaru w/ warranty. Replacement turbos....DIRT cheap, any WRX turbo will fit and they are very inexpensive.

              As for the AE86, you probably won't have a whole lot of issues with the motor, afterall it is a Toyota.

              But, like Bill said, who cares what the rest of us think...its your car, get what you want.

So far, all you have proven is that when someone proves you wrong you try and twist the facts so that (in your mind) you are right. What kind of knowledge do you possess about the automobile? What have you built? Where did you attain your knowledge? How long have you been working on cars, and then what kind of cars have you worked on? I may be wrong, but it seems like the car you have worked on is your cougar and you may know a bit about Fords because of that.

                  Word! Just because you work at napa doesn't mean you can come on here, and know everything. You can act like you know what your talking about in your store, and on a cougar forum, but don't come on here acting like you know anything about imports. Your knowledge of prices for anything you have mentioned so far is severly jaded. IMHO, the car you drive is good for you, It fits your personality perfectly! Stick to your stocking parts at the auto parts store, and don't tell us how much shit costs for our own cars...

                    i have no clue what napa you work at or anything like but people that work at napa(and other parts stores) should sometimes listen to there customers more. i had a guy at a parts store was arguing with my that the part i was looking for was in possible way the part i need, or was even where i said it was. even when i told him i am directly looking at the factory sercive manual produced by nissan and that is exactly what it was and where it was. but this isnt the place to rant about that, the thread turned that way so i fallowed, LOL

                    but subaru's are sweet cars. if i could afford it my jeep would be gone and i would have a 04+ wrx as a daily driver. i love subarus

                        I don't have to, I could switch my front bumpers and drive the car year round....but I have a company car that I can use for personal use and they pay my gas, so for the past 2 years, I've never bothered chancing someone else smashing into me.

                          Yes, I think its getting old...and I'm NOT going to moderate it. The shopping cart incident didn't really make me draw a conclusion about him, its been his "I work at Napa, I know everything about cars" attitude that has. Again, yes I think it is getting old that he posts on here.

                                  I drove a Thunderbird for 3 years of winters, other then it getting stuck all the time it was a great winter beater.

                                  Your car's a auto (I think) so what's the big deal, easy to drive durning the winter. Just get some good tires, they make all the diffrence.

                                    I have been working on cars for a little while I did all my own work on my taurus, buick, chevy pickup, and have worked on one 240sx, two turbocoupes both of which are 12 second race cars, a 55 chevy bel air with a 350 and twin gale banks turbos, a 72 ranchero with a 351 Cleveland thats pushing 450 whp, countless forklifts, bobcats, and farm equipment. A few race rockets one honda CBR900RR, and two Gixxer 750's. I know my way around a toolbox. My opinion as far as parts are concerned is not the best deal you can find at advanced or autozone, its the quality of the part in question. For instance a starter for my cougar which will fit nearly every 5.0 made after 86 with the AOD tranny is $96.89 retail and i have right now 4 in stock, one for a 92 supra with the 7MT motor is 136.69 and I would have to wait a day. Starters are only the beginning say I need bushings, motor mounts, throttle cable, gaskets. They all have to be special ordered and cost at least 20% more than the average domsetic parts. Now you know how I earned it.

                                      I'm not trying to start a fight, but when you told me about these cars it sounded like you didn't have anything to do with them other then your rich friend let you drive them..

                                        All fox cougars were automatics, with the exception of the 2.3 turbo XR7's, but its a pain in the ass with my 265/50/15 coopers those things suck when they get snow or ice on em. I could get new tires but i don't want this car to rust out. It is my project car.

                                          No i never drove any of them but i did fit the turbo kit on the bel air, i did an entire suspension for the 240, head swaps on the TC's and one got a new turbo and rear end, the exhaust on the ranchero 3 inch pipe the whole way out. I never drove them but i did work on all of them.
