look for something that can put out 500 or so rms into a single 2ohm load, then wire your subs so that each is parallel (2 ohm each). i've found that as long as your amp isn't buried under something, it will handle a 1ohm load pretty well; this way, you will have effectively increased the output to roughly 1000watts
look around on ebay (if you trust people) for something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64572&item=5707480679&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
i have that, and it's powering 2 12" audiobahns currently. i can turn it up as loud as i want and the lights barely dim, but i also have an mtx 6304 (68 watts x 4) running. talk to caleb at type r or tjamz on this board for some more professional aid. -

It is a very solid amp at a very attractive price. I have a smaller version of this amplifier on a pair of audiobahn 12" subs in my brother-in-laws car for a few months now and absolutely love the power it has. Nice and clean, no engine noises (whining/cracking/hissing noises) and runs fairly cool due to its class D technology.
If you want this amp, I can get it within a week from my distributor.

I hate to disagree but I'm going to anyway. Open a Lanzar amp up, look at the componentry used inside it. Look at the use of top mount circuitry. Is it bar none the best amp on the market? Hell no. However it is probably one of the best bang for buck amplifiers that I have ever used (I have used Phoenix Gold, Xtant, PPI when they still made good amps, Rockford, Coustic, Linear Power, Orion, Crossfire, Zapco, Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, Clarion, Audiobahn, JL Audio, Earthquake, MTX, etc...) The design in the Lanzar amp is definately more of a simple design from a few years back, but just because it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new products doesn't mean it can't be a solid amplifier.
Car Sound magazine (Published by Richard Clark and Dave Navone in conjunction w/ some of the more respected names in car audio such as Mark Eldridge, Rob Hephner, Matt Borgardt, etc...) rated this series of amplifier very high in the August 2000 issue. "If you are absolutely intent on spec shopping, then you will likely find other units with better numbers in some of the more meaningless categories. However the 1200D (this amps little brother) has the important stuff covered. I produces lots of low-frequency power into both resistive and reactive loads and does so with class D efficiency"
Also, I seem to recall a certain Dave "Fishman" Rivera doing a full all-out Lanzar vehicle at about the same time as that article. For those of you who aren't familiar w/ "Fish" he has probably produced some of the best sounding/craziest looking installations that any of us have or ever will have seen. I really don't think he'd stake his rep on a manufacturer that he deems as "Kmart Bullshit".
I'm not trying to pick you apart here, you are correct in that it's not the hottest new amplifier on the block, but it is certainly better than any amplifier you will buy at Kmart/Walmart etc.. It doesn't have the up in smoke factor that Jensen has.
I have a Lanzar 1800D (3 will be installed, only have one running now and hit 140's with some cheap audiobahn subs) in a vehicle that is headed to USACi world finals in Pro Stock 1001 to 5000 Watts. Would I send a vehicle to finals w/ a questionable amplifier? Yeah, I didn't think so.
Find me a better amplifier for the money. He did ask for a good amp at a decent price, I certainly could have sold him Kicker/PPI/Soundstream/Phoenix Gold if I wanted to charge him an arm and a leg for it.

I agree with you chuck...not very many people know about lanzar...it is a good brand that i would trust for making some noise..people dont like it cause it doesnt say rockford fosgate on it etc. It is by far the best bang for the buck..there is no competition in that at all.
If you want a good powerful amp for a low price definately get lanzar.
