No humor involved. Each state also has a constitution, some allow checkpoints within city limits, some don't. You will not find checks happening within city limits in Moorhead any time soon.
Citing the constitution does not answer why this is not related to Bush or the patriot act, explaining Federalism does.
You are right, each state has their laws too regarding these issues. Having said that, these laws are only valid so-long as they follow the US Constitution. For example, ND can't make murder legal because federal law prohibits murder. Why is this not related to Bush or the Patriot act? Well, my guess is because the ND Highway Patrol has been conducting this style of checkpoint for as long as I've been driving (16 years...roughly).

Hey psied what are you going to do? Once I get my journeyman's license here in a couple years I can fetch upwards of $90,000-$100,000 a year in Minneapolis... probably more by the time I get it. Journeymen here in fargo are making $47,000-$52,000 a year... masters are making even more and a masters license is easy to get... just a lot of studying and I can get it a year after my journeyman.

How long has Bush been in office? 4 years How old is the Patriot Act? Been around since October 24, 2001
You said that you can remember the existence of these checkpoints for about 16 years. Do the math.

I did, it seems like sobriety checkpoints have been around for 12 years longer than "W" has been in office. What is your point here?
