they made a dohc motor...i believe it was the turboIII? or somethin like that? i think it was in the spirit r/tThat was a joint venture between Chrysler and of all people Lotus. It was available in 91 in the Spirit. In 1992 it became available in the Daytona IROC R/T and the Spirit R/T. They actually made a turboIV engine after that. They had killer power for the day. Something like 224 HP and 217 ft-lb in stock trim for the turboIII.

I'd rather have a glhs. I remember when they came out. I was a teenager riding around with a buddy in a 1970 GTO when this little black omni pulls up with some middle aged fella in a suit driving it (Must have been a car salesman). Were in the 4 lane at a stoplight when he pulls next to us and gives her a rev. I'll never forget my buddies reaction when we take off like a bat outa hall and that fukin car blew my buddies doors off. It was classic. Neither of us could believe what just happend. That's actually what got me into sport compacts to begin with.

Turbo III was a much better design motor than the previous 2.2/2.5L SOHC motors. Crossflow head meant a much better flowing and high rpm capable top-end (Head was designed by Lotus). However, it was still plagued by the bottom-end. It was still the old 2.2L/2.5L bottom-end design, which meant while it now had good top-end flow....the block wouldn't stay together to take advantage of it. Not to mention the Turbo III motor is very rare, and try finding parts for that thing. The Turbo IV was just the same 2.5L Turbo I (rated at 150hp) but utilized a VNT turbo (variable nozzle turbo). Power output was close to 190hp but offered spooling times of the much smaller turbo cars. But once again, a rare turbo motor.
Ever seen plastic rims? The old turbo mopars were a haven for exp. models.
