I have grown to like the Toyo Proxes 4. I have 245/50/16's and i really like the way they preform in the rain, but i did drive in the snow for about 2 days with them. Check them out.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
Torque is how far you take the wall with you

I've got them on my Miata (Proxes 4). They are O.K. but not worth a shit in the winter. Plus they are directional. After selling and using both tires, I'd definately go with the Kumho's. They at least have some siping on them. I can give you a quote if need. Pm me for details.

I'm looking for a set of 4 tires that will handle well in the winter/snow/ice and in the rain, but perform very well, have good traction, and are performance oriented...

Suggestions? They will be on a wrong wheel drive vehical too if that helps.

            what are these going on?
i am kinda dumb and cannot remember what you have.

any other recomendations for tires as 94NDTA stated.
i am sure i will need new ones by winter.
i am sure we are both looking for a GM W-body.

If your willing to sacrifice the performance aspect of things, I sell tires that would be FAR SUPERIOR in the all season departrment.

I'm trying to run mid to low 13's on these tires as well, performance aspect makes a difference.

Well good luck with that. You'll be lucky to hold enough traction to pull those times on either tire.

Maybe. If I have enough hp I can.

so what tire are you thinking Wes?

personally i would give on all weather for a nice summer tire. then have another setup for winter. either swapping tires or a totally different wheel/tire combo. this tire would be aimed more at winter.

this is all new to me so i am all ears. before i just picked a tire when i needed them.

it really makes sense here to have 2x wheels and tires. Get some steel wheels for winter and put good winter rubber on there, and then run super aggressive summer tires 🙂

In winter i've used Blizzak WS-50s and they're fantastic.. but very soft and gummy if it gets much above 40 degrees. I bought a set of "Green Diamond Icelanders" which are a much harder rubber but have bits of carbide embedded into them.. .kind of like studs but not really.... snow and ice grip is as good as the blizzaks.. but not a real studded tire. Unlike blizzaks and studs, you can run them year round if you want.. and they have VERY stiff sidewalls so they do much better at speed in dry conditions.

For a cheap summer tire i like the Kuhmo 712, for a bit more, the Potenza Re750 is nice. I stopped running 750s because i'd tear them up too quickly at the track.. but the 712s in a 225/50/16 are like $75 or something... not bad for the amount of grip you get.

Note that either of these choices is totally unusable in the winter... i had to move the car with ice on the ground... i put the car in 4th gear and tried to slip the clutch.. motor simply idling... and the rear tires started to spin and the end wiggled 🙂 Spinning the tires idling from a stop in 4th gear is a bit ridiculous 🙂

A tire that's going to be good in winter won't be any good in summer.. and vice versa. Trying to get 1 tire that does it all means you're giving up performance at both extremes. Besides, you want different tire/wheel geometries for winter/summer anyway...thin tires with tall sidewalls in winter, low profiles for summer...

Most summer tires do well in the rain. Rain performance is governed primarily by tread depth and tread design. Obviously shaved R comps don't do well in standing water 🙂

tirerack.com has extensive tire comparison data.
