People who live in Devils Lake call it DL as do most who live within 100 miles of it. Now, people who have moved here from say, Harvey/Rugby/other places near Devils Lake may call it Devils Lake so as to not confuse others when holding a conversation.

I was just gonna say 'Dumb Southerners refer to Devil's Lake as DL.'
But I guess a proper response would be:
'Dumb Southerners stationed at Grand Forks AFB that have to drive by the 'Devil's Lake-76 miles' sign every day call it DL.'
I think that is more appropriate.
