Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
Torque is how far you take the wall with you

Yeah, Ruthless FTW! I had my car in that damn shop 5 times over three weeks and the tech couldn't figure it out. Shawn actually took the time to figure out the REAL problem (instead of completely guessing) and the car actually has worked for three days straight!:woot:

The damn tech said it was the alternator not once, but twice. I now have three perfectly good alternators. I only paid $40 a pop for the two replacements at 7th Ave, but still:mad:

Thanks Shawn for actually putting your head into figuring out the problem. Going three weeks without a car and having the battery die from no charge on me every other time I drove my car was a real pain. I owe ya a beer man:drink:

            From my understanding...
The ELD was not functioning so they rewired it into a different circuit. The circuit they rewired it into kept popping fuses. Turns out the O2 sensor heater is wired into the same circuit and a wire for the O2 simulator was stripped...leading to the blown fuses.

The ELD is in the same circuit as the Rear O2 simulator he has on his car and the alternator. The car was not charging cuz the ELD was not getting Battery voltage. So instead of the tech finding out why the ELD was not getting Battery voltage he pumbed his own Battery voltage from a different circuit. That worked for maybe a day before it blew the fuse, then you guessed it no charge! So the car came back. The tech is a 50 year old guy who hates working on modified cars. All i heard was how much of a peice of junk the car was! He left on Friday without touching it.
So on saturday it was slow so a co-worker and i pulled jason's car in the shop to look at. There was no reason to plumb that power to the ELD!!!! Just find out why it wasnt getting power. Simple....right? Everytime i put a new 7.5 amp fuse in for the ELD it blew when the key was turned on. Ok so there was a short somewhere. I looked around and disconnected that power feed the tech ran to the ELD put in a new fuse and the fuse didnt blow.
After i got a few voltage readings i found that it had a short to ground. I remembered checking the codes his car had stored were a short in the rear O2 sensor circuit. He has a simulator instead of a Sensor. Sure enough i found the short to ground in that wiring. The simulator wires shorted on the battery tray causing the fuse to blow that feeds voltage to the ELD causing a no charge situation. Plus the fuse holder for the 7.5 was loose so it was intermittent when the short to groung was repaired. Sorry for the long post but i was very pleased that i figured out the problem before a 30 year Tech. I called the next day to check up on the car and to see if everything was ok. Luckily everything was A- OK!

                    so where was this?

I here all the time that old techs cant stand working on modded cars, and then you find out they go home to work on there muscle car/hot rod.

Their is a reason my car well never go to the nissan dealership. Granted if they looked at it they wouldn't know what side was up. There is many a reason why I avoid Gateway Nissan, and actually most of gateway.

Good thing somebody figured it out. Sounds like whoever put the O2 simulator in didn't do a very good job the first time, otherwise that wouldn't have ever happened! Fess up whoever did it....

that is the huge negative side of modified cars, especially when it comes to electrical work. There has been a many of times where i go to do some diagnostics and find out that the ckts that are bad are modified related due to someone routing something incorrectly, overloading a ckt, etc, etc.

And yes, our dear old technicians hate working on new, especially modified cars.....for the same reason why i hate working on old cars.....we dont understand them as much. Give me a fuel injected vehicle any day over an old carb/vacuum operated car.

Its great to hear that you figured it out.....maybe yourself should think of getting into our field. We are in desperate need of not only GOOD Technicians....but SMART ones. It is easy to find and replace someone who can do brakes, suspensions, or even engine work.....but someone who can diagnose problems, especially electrical....now they are the ones that we need and are in high demand and well paid.

I agree working on cars that are modded can be a pain but he just bitched all day long. He didnt care to find out what this was or that was. If he took the time to find out that he had O2 simulators and where it was located it would of make his job a whole lot easier. He sounded like my wife! NAG NAG NAG!

The O2 simulator wasn't under the battery this spring when it was put in. It must have gotten moved while the car was in the shop or something.
