Paint Chips / Dings
-
The M5 I brought to rice-fest saturday nite turns 20 years old next year. It's still got original factory paint, but it's got a bunch of scratches, chips, and just a couple of cracks in it. It's not bad from 20 ft, but its not good from 2 ft

I don't want to re-spray the car, but when I wash the car its obvious that it's got spots all over it.
What I'd like is for someone that knows what they're doing to fill in all the scratches and pits with the right paint. I've read how to do this... sand down the edges of the chip/scratch, fill in the new stuff, sand it down so its smooth, etc, all using something the size of a pencil eraser and an exacto-knife, etc etc.
That sounds time consuming and like something I'd screw up, but ultimately, nothing beats factory paint, and i think if i fixed the chips and scratches, and then did a few sessions of claying and polishing, the paint on this car would really come back and look great.
Anyone in town do chip repair like I'm describing? Someone that understands you don't just re-spray a 20 year old low-production car just becase "its easier"?
