Need Networking Help

I want to set up a network between my Laptop and desktop.
I download all my music/videos on my desktop and do everything else on my laptop so I don't get any viruses. Anyways, I want to be able to send all those files through the network instead of burning Cd's every time I download something. Free Pizza/Pop for whoever comes and does it for me. -
