Why did Dave turn his NA Supra into a 9 second beast?

This is an IM conversation Dave I and had today. It reveals a deeply scarred young man who's first modification to his 2 door sports car wasn't enough...

Used to have a 96 aurora in the family, nice car for the money, but after a year of no trouble, $2300 for a oil pan, water pump, and ps leaks to be fixed. Traded it off the next day. No space in that engine bay, battery is under the back seat.
I've thought about buying a manual sc300 down the road and modding it. Alot cheaper, less beat on, luxerious than a supra, with less insurance costs.
