This is a very misinformed idea of them. Ive had one, and tried to break it and it wouldnt go, Zac's has held up to a ton of abuse just fine. If you get a good one, with good compression, and that has been taken care of, they are just as reliable as any other higher horsepower car. You make a ton of power over stock and what do you expect? the car to behave like it would stock?

The 13bt is very similar to the 13b REW, i was very aware of what he was talking about. And zacs car has a REW.

the 93-95 RX7s are one of the most beautiful, functionally cars there are imo. a couple issues. 1) their not generally a financeable vehicle. much like the supras, however not to the same extent, they generally sell about their book value. 2) alot of the issues with the rx7s boil down to spending the time/money to maintain your vehicle. you need to find an owner that was meticulous about their vehicle. i got lucky and found a great example of what I was looking for.

the other thing is you have to have realistic expectations for the vehicle. if you're looking at a 93, that is a vehicle that is almost 15 years old now. certain things are going to need attention and replacement after that kinda age, and once the mileage starts to get up there on them.

however, I'm very impressed with my car. my 424whp @ 18psi, stock motor, and is taking it very well. enough power to have alot of fun with, especially in that light of a vehicle.

They are a nice ride. But, not a car to CHEAP OUT on when doing anything to them. If you plan on owning one, plan on spending money on it (and lots of it). If not, It WILL come back to bite you. It will definately be a fun car to own.

why does everyone say it is so expensive?, they obviously haven't owned one, or dont know what they are doing and just like spending money

I have a REW in my car, it cost me 500 (with the cost of the block) to build this engine, and i could rebuild it for less than 400 when i break it apart again, and it has been through more abuse than anyones, and it runs still

and a properly tuned rotary is just as reliable or more as any other engine trying to push close to 3-9 hp per cubic inch, i dont see many reliable 2600hp v8s roaming the streets

and at any rate a rx7 is an awsome platform whether v8 or rotary powered...
right parker:)............. the reason i stay with a rotary is because i am retarded and need an engine with only 3 moving parts

MOST IMPORTANT, it is rotating the right pair of wheels and the engine sits the right direction

Haha Zach I have owned 2 rx7's now and they are more expensive if you dont have all the mechanical aptitude to do the work yourself. Which youve proved overwhelmingly that you have an abundance of. But, not everyone else does. And it's not just the engine I'm referring to as far as cost goes. but the whole car. You have to admit that the 2nd gens are far easier and cheaper to get parts for than the 3rd gens.

And again, I still think he should get one. Just be prepaired.

you make a good point, there are people that spend 3500 on pineapple engines

what i am trying to say is they are very simple cars if you want to take the time to learn them, a fucking blind monkey could rebuild a rotary engine

I see your point, i just dont want him totally scared off from the idea of owning a 7

A couple things that are pretty necessary on an FD are 1. remove the rats nest. That will simplify the vaccum and emissions shit on that car like you wouldn't believe. They start w/ over 100 vaccum lines, and you can get it down to less than 20 easily. 2. yank out the wiring harness and give it to me, so it can be simplified by removing all the unnecessary plugs and wires one the emissions stuff is gone. Then it can be nicely taped back up and re-loomed. The heat in the engine bay of the FD is ridiculous and makes all the connectors, wires, tape, etc very very brittle. So also plan on spending some time/money on keeping the engine bay a little cooler.

I love my car, but it was still fairly expensive to go to a single turbo on. love the car, but like wes said, not a car to cut corners on.
