Well I have this polaris 300 4x4 4wheeler I have had for maybe 3 years now, The motor knocked some when I got it and Never got to fixing it, put maybe 200-300 miles on it with a knocking motor and finally last summer it locked up solid. It took until now that I gained enough motivation to take it apart, took about 3 hours to get the motor out and apart. I was expecting to find a broken rod or something but not a busted piston. I am not a expert on these motors but I say the whole thing is shot, the cranck case has a crack in it too, and the jug is scored to hell, like you were running sand in it. Guess I need to find a now motor.

Also does anyone know of someone who can rebuild one of these motors reasonably?

Note to self: don't continue to drive vehicle with a knocking engine.

        :drunken_smilie:

It's hard to tell, is it a 4-stroke or 2-stroke?

If the cylinder is cast iron, most likely there is enough there to bore and put a oversize piston in. Broken cases aren't good, does it look like it broke from the stress of the engine locking up, or because something just hit it (piece of piston, etc)? If it was just hit, you should be able to weld it up and use it.

Your best bet will be to just find a motor out of a junked one or something, rebuilding would cost more and be more of a hassle than it is worth.
