You should probably take the bumper off and make sure nothing else is damaged. Also make sure the exhaust isn't damaged further up besides just the tip. If you got a hook up on paint, figure something out and see if he wants to settle out of insurance for $$$$.

I don't want to have insurance get involved so his rates don't go up and I don't get a ding on my record for something I'm not at fault for.

For sure, when my girlfriend got hit by a drunk driver, her plastic bumper cover had now damage, but the metal bumper behind was $900. I told them to leave it since it doesn't do any harm but her dad is picky and got it fixed. The car got totalled like 6 months later anyways by her sister.
