Why is seemingly everbody in the "Republican Pary" brainwashed

I don't think there is any country with more absolute freedoms than the USA.
But all of the current crop of folks (excpet Paul) are trying to whittle away at the freedoms we do have... this has been happening at least since 1930 when FDR took us drastically towards big government socialism.
There's no denying that Obama is charismatic, but he's way to the left of Hillary. With an ultra leftist president and an ultra leftist congress, the first 2 years of an Obama OR hillary adminsitration could see massive "progress" towards the leftist/progressive/socialist idealogoy.
I'm really expecting a new "assault weapons" ban in Summer 2009 if the dems win it. Nancy Pelosi is top dog in the house and she is on record as saying "if i thought there was a way to take everyones guns, I'd do it". Well, with her running the show and an agreeable president, they'll certainly be able to make long strides towards that goal.
Taxes will go up under a democrat -- all of them have promised it.
I think North Dakota should cecede from the USA. We'll keep our wheat and our nukes, I'll enlist in the ND national guard to help protect our STATE borders from the aggression of the Feds, and we can repeal a bunch of stupid fed stuff. We can have Ron Paul be president of ND

We'll trade freely with the rest of the USA, but we won't submit to some of their dumber laws.
Actually, i was thinking about this last nite. In ND there is no ban on industrial hemp, and there are some farmers here that have tried to grow it and gotten in trouble with the feds (who DO ban industrial hemp).
The state is ostensibly pro-hemp production but people here that try it get in trouble with UNcle Sam.
What I'm wondering is --- would the elected officials of ND stand up for ND farmers that wanted to produce hemp? Would we deploy the ND National Guard to protect farmers against federal authorities? We wouldn't need to cecede from the US, but I wonder if we'd be willing to fight for our state laws to overrule what the feds are trying to do to us?
Same thing for a new federal assault weapons ban? I wonder if there are any issues that would have popular support in ND for overruling what the feds try and outlaw...

I agree with what you guys are saying, and think we are going to be fucked for at least the next 4 years. The thing that really worries me is all the anti-gun bullshit. I mean a good chunk on my families income is from our shop and putting on gun shows, it's pretty much the difference in getting our bills paid and them not. I think i'm gonna go invest some $ in more "assault rifles", last ban the price of a Colt AR went from $900 to $2300 overnight...and if nothing else if u cant sell them it'll be a means to protect myself from when they try to take them away from me...
Look at Nazi Germany and Communist Russia...they banned guns, what happend? Millions of defenseless people died... Here's a quote that i've always found interesting (I think we all know what ended up happening shortly after):
"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future." --Adolf Hitler, 1935

If anti gun laws are passed, that ban semi-automatics (which Obama supports btw). I for one will be seeking permanent residence elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if alot of other people do also.

speaking of ani gun bullshit, did you know .50cal rifles are gonna be banned in california. Thats right, a bolt action rifle that is now considered an assult weaponYep...Barrett wont sell to police and military in Cali anymore, if the people cant have them then they wont sell to law enforcement either. But, they came out with a .416 Barrett caliber which shoots farther, more accurately, and hits harder then the .50 and is legal in Cali. I remember when they first came out they had a big ad in some magazines basically mocking California cuz they made a even more powerful gun that's perfectly legal.

You can pretty much rule out moving to canada or the uk though. and australia too i think....

You'd be dead unless you have the cash to pay for protection from the government. Unless you plan on living over seas, I don't see a viable option for having the right to own more guns than you currently do.

I'm not agreeing/disagreeing with you Heath. But here is his record and a few statements he has made about gun control.
http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Gun_Control.htm
and an exerpt from http://learfield.typepad.com/radioiowa/2007/04/clinton_edwards.html
Finally, here is the text of what Obama said during a Radio Iowa interview:
Henderson: "I'm wondering if what happened at Virginia Tech, in your opinion, might alter the debate about gun control."
Obama: "It's early to make a full assessment on how this changes our politics and the public mood. I think all of us are still just overwhelmed with grief for the families and for Virginia Tech and obviously people here remember what happened at the university and how painful it can be (a reference to the shootings at the University of Iowa). I do think that the evidence so far at least indicates that you've got a young man who was mentally deranged, was identified as such, was temporarily committed and was still able to obtain handguns and so one critical question is, 'What happened to our background check system? Why did it fail?' and it seems like we should be able to come to some bipartisan agreement on making that background system, background check system work. The second area which may be fought by the NRA, but I think has to be looked at is the availability of 19-round clips. I'm a strong believer in the rights of hunters and sportsmen to have firearms. I'm a believe in homeowners having a firearms to protect their home and their family. It's hard for me to find a rationale for a 19-clip semi-automatic. I said at a forum earlier this week, 'If you need 19 rounds to shoot a deer, you probably shouldn't be hunting' and so that I think is something that we should be able to have a reasonable conversation about."
Henderson: "Do you think this is a prickly issue for Democrats?"
Obama: "The problem that we've had is that the overwhelming majority of gun owners use those firearms safely, secure them properly and I think would be amenable to reasonable gun control laws. The NRA's attitude has been that any restriction is an infringement on the rights of gun owners and you know because of the breadth of their membership and the large amounts of money that they have at their disposal, I think they are oftentimes able to scare law-abiding gun owners into thinking that Democrats are going to take away their rights and part of what I think we have to communicate is that we are committed to maintaining the rights of lawful gun owners, but that doesn't contradict the need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill or put limits on the accessibility of semi-automatic weapons or make sure that straw purchasers aren't dumping firearms into our inner cities."

all of the people in public office calling for gun control have armed body guards.
hypocrites.
the point of the 2nd amendment is to keep an armed population so that they can, via force if necessary, fire their government when it no longer serves its purposes. an armed man is a citizen. an unarmed man is a subject. one of the cheif greivances of the colonists was the british army shacking up in peoples homes unwelcome and uninvited. the framers designed the constitution to ensure that a sufficient majority of the populace could overthrow ANY government.
You shouldn't trust anyone in government that is proposing cover-their-ass anti-gun laws. They'll always have armed body guards. But they still feel the need to disarm you and limit your ability to fire them.
That doesn't sound like the mentality of a public servant to me.. it sounds like the mentality of a public master... someone who thinks themselves fit to rule.
Gun owners and 2nd amendment supporters aren't kooks. The 2nd amendment is there beacuse without it, the other 9 are just worthless paper, to be twisted and extorted for the whims of the politicians. Just like the dollar.
Would you trust the feds with the management of your rights after seeing how they've managed your currency?

I'm ok with gun control in the effect that I don't think convicted felons (especially those with a violent past) should be allowed to possess a fire arm. So background checks are ok with me....as is a waiting period to receive a gun.
However, I am not in favor of "assault weapons bans" as I personally deer hunt with an AK47. Its a darn good gun that is accurate and seldom needs any sort of maintenance.
