Would you be able to summarize what you asked for clarification? Just curious..

As for the "If you're not into street racing, why would you need that?" Quote... Like another poster stated, they can still make use of them on a local dragstrip or racetrack. I wonder how they determine the following 1) Modification(s) 2) Whether they meet the standards for emission or not 3) If it is approve or unapproved.. (I don't think they could make a driver take apart his car to prove that it is stamped/marked approved. )

What if you drive down their from ND/MN to Cali. in your own car? Does these laws still apply?

California is really strict on a lot of numerous rules.. Street-racing in particular. The high-priced fines of being a spectator of street-racing. Losing your car by confiscation and having it crushed, etc.
California so gay... Sooner or later an earthquake will happen and Cali will become a big island next to Hawaii. We can call it "Calaii" LOL

I read up about this a little on Honda-Tech... a few members of the site were there and said the cops we ticketing them for "illegal modifications" to their cars, when there was clearly a CARB sticker on said parts...

Just asked for clarification regarding the modifications they determined to be illegal....and what made them illegal, and how they determined the parts were illegally installed if they didn't have a warrant to search the vehicles.

Also asked why they aren't arresting Ferrari owners and crushing/impounding their vehicles, since "they don't need" all that power.

I then pointed out legit reasons to have such parts on your car....including: Because I can; Because I have disposable income; Because girls like to see that kind of stuff; Because I compete in car shows; etc....

^LOL, Chuck worried about girls liking his car.... 🙂

Even if a CARB approved part is on the car, it still has to be installed by a CARB approved installer. You also pretty much need to carry proof of all this, and still will end up going to court over it.

This is a reason why you can buy some sick modded cars in cali for dirt cheap.

Very well put & funny at the same time.

I wonder if they will respond, and if they do, what they will say.

But in reference to Ferrari owners, I'm sure they leave their vehicles the way they came off from the dealership/manufacturers. However, do they push the limits of meeting the standards? I bet.. Some probably fail, however, anyone who has a Ferrari, do you think California would crush the car? Probably not.. $$$ is power.

Cali can fall into the pacific for all I care. I don't feel sorry for the people with illegal mods, or stolen parts at all. Some were confiscated so obviously there was a reason for the cops to be there. The quote about needing or wanting more power is ridiculous, like Chuck said why would anyone with a GT-500 need 500 horsepower, unless they were into street racing right!?

I feel sorry for some of them. They impound cars with no VIN plates on the the motor or tranny. Not all cars have them. Also, your car would not be legal in Cali...

That why I live here, duh. I understand that not every car would have the vin tagged on all the major components, but if thats an issue I'm pretty sure I'd save all my fucking receipts in case shit like this happens. In which case the owner gets his car back and owes nothing after a little time in front of the judge, which isnt always a bad thing.

If you ever heard anything back i'd be surprised. I'm sure people have more protecting and serving to do rather than letting anyone know about local and state laws. They will probably just point you to the statuate and let you read it yourself. Don't you know police don't need a warrant anymore? It's a nice idea but cops will do what they want nowadays, knowing full well it will be held up in court due to 9/11 or some shit. If your police force doesn't have the ability to search your property without your consent or warrant, how safe are we, really? 9/11. Actually it probably has something to do with if something illegal is clearly visible (ride height, lights, exhaust, tint, anything they can see in the passenger compartment) they have "probable cause" for a search, and I'm sure that then somehow extends to everyone else in the vicinity. I'm sure they could refuse the search. Only instead of getting a warrant, the officer would have the car immediatley impounded and the owner arrested for non compliance, or tazered, or both. I love it when people think they have rights anymore, thats hilarious. 9/11.

shit, i dunno, i was being sarcastic.

i imagine it protects the police force's pay rates and speculations about future raises. and it serves.. the police? i guess if you find a massive source of revenue like this, you fucking milk it and enforce the living hell out of it until someone calls foul, which in this case is moot given the perpetrators are the law enforcers. i would think they have all sorts of reasons for these laws. some people have died from street racing, they cannot guarantee the saftey of modified cars, pollution is prolly a big one. I dunno.

The really handy thing is that you don't actually have to be doing anything like street racing or causing a nuicence (sp?), its the modifying itself that is illegal. They also prolly write fucktons of bullshit tickets if someone doesn't have a reciept or some paperwork on them hoping they won't show up to court or that they just pay the fine. Officers disgression is awesome because these tickets basically affect their payrate, or how nice their cars are or whatever, so what do you think they are going to do, write more or less tickets. It's not the officers job to be an expert, yet they get to use disgression? what if the guy at jiffy lube was on a commision or got some incentive for sales? damn right he'd go ahead and recommend that system flush, whether you need it or not.

i just think it comes down to a handy way of generating revenue. for example with the new rulings against the uberfines here in fargo, im guessing we will just seeing increases in tickets to make up for lost revenue, and also alot of bullshit tickets hoping people won't show up for court.
