Yeah mine's not blueberry flavored like yours is though Nick. Oh and it WILL BE PIMPED OUT!!. Probably not that fast though. Kevin at SLS wants me to boost it but I want to drive it a while first. I'll let Nick be the guinea pig for a turbo kit before I buy one.

I wouldn't buy a kit in the 1st place none ofthemreally make any big power. I'dmake my own kit w/ some goodies. Be a little different doing a setup w/ mine though as i swapped in the 1.8 and they take a lot more abuse. I've seen guys doing mid 300 whp on stock motors. They say the limits is around 400 if you're careful. I'll boost mine once i get the motor back together and in it but as of right now i got to many other projetcs ahead ofit. I hope to get to it sometime in August though.

I actually like what you've done to yours. It's not too rice. In fact, it's one of the more tastefully done miatas I've seen. When I said be the guinea pig, I meant you building your own turbo kit. I didn't figure you would use somebodies off the shelf kits. Not when you are MORE than capable of creating a better set up yourself. But I dont think absolute speed and power is of my upmost concern. Been there and done that for too many years. I want something I can get in, drive, and enjoy w/out having to work on it all the time. besides if I wanted to be fast, I would have stayed with the DSM. But TOO MANY PEOPLE, THEIR BROTHERS AND THEIR COUSINS have one now and they have become asshole cars. Everyone has em. They are still the shit though and will always have my respect.

So you got out of your DSM (Which is getting harder everyday to find) because of the trendiness? Because everyone has one.......

Wow, never a factor when I went to buy a car. And my 13-sec FWD Auto car hasn't had any problems for almost 2 years now. And I dragged it weekly. My old Laser AWD ran high-11s and it never had any problems for over 2 years. It comes down to respect for the car, knowing it's limits and actually caring about the car. And not looking at it as some HP producing machine that bows to your every need.

Miata's are ok.....too small for me, 3rd gens are much prettier and as some magazine put it.............."Miatas are for guys who are gay or have a small penis." Now I can say that they will def. run rings around most cars at a track though. Mandling is awsome in those things. They feel like a go-kart.

I am not gay by any strecth of the imagination. And my wife seems to like my penis size just fine. Anyway I dont like to be a part of such a big trend. Call me cooky.
You also live in a bigger town than I do. You dont see what I have to. Everyone has or wants a DSM here. IT'S ANNOYING! The only positive to it is at least it isnt all about cavaliers. Also, fast times dont mean shit to me anymore. I've been into the draq scene for a better part of 16 years now and I just dont have the desire to go fast that I used to have. And I also know that if I'm going to work on them myself, The miata will be far easier to do. Not cheaper mind you.
You dont have to defend DSMs Like I previosly stated. I have nothing but repect for them and waht they are capable of. IT'S JUST NOT MY BAG! And theres nothing like having the top down on a beautiful day and just go for a drive. As far as convertibles go, The miata was a helluva lot more obtainable than a comparable DSM. So there, I'm done explaining myself.

Im in the same boat, i hate being part of the trend and having or doing what everyone else around you is doing as well. I tried to be as different/custom as i could w/ my 1G but it only went so far before they started copying there too. Im personally annoyed w/ every kid coming in looking for a 1G cheap. Even if you got a good quality one they dont wanna pay more than $1500. Funny thing is is that most lack the knowledge, tools, and $$ to fix up a parts car. Wehave 4 perfect examples @ the shop right now. Kids w/ no $$ that have a car and cant afford to fix it. Or they want it done asap, car gets done and they cant front the bill.

I bet i've had more DSM's than this whole board combined, i've seen, fixed or had about every problem you can have w/ one. Yes, a DSM can be had for cheap but you start w/ a piece of shit you will have a piece of shit until everything is replaced. I've also had DSM's which i paid good $$ for inthe get go because they were worth it and didn't cause me many problems @ all. SO idk where you get the respect the car and its limits BS. A 13 sec DSM's consists of a boost controller and free mods so id hope you wouldn't have many problems. I've also made 530whp on stock rods/pistons/tranny w/o any problems so back to the point of if you start w/ a POS you'll have a POS. And thats what most will be getting w/ their cheap/budget 1G.

Back to the miata discussion. They are very fun cars to drive but they definatly need more power. But they handle like a dream. As of right now there is no miata trend that is why i own one as well. As far as i know im the only one around that really does have one other thsn random stock ones floating around town. Now i just need to get mine back together and boosted before someone beats me to it and i'll have to start something else.

I'd love a miata if I could fit in it. I'm friggin 6'4 so thats definately a no go. Anyways I'm starting to get less and less with my wrx as more and more people are definately getting them. Hence why I recently decided to do a few more mods to it, and then sell it 😞

Just that point in my life I need to give up speed (in a car at least, planning on some kind of 600cc sport bike) and get a ride with no problems, warranty, and luxury comfort. Hence why I bought the Toyota Camry Solara V6. No balls, smooth ride.

Good luck to both of you guys on your Miata. Don't throw your keys in the trunk (ahem Nick) 🙂

WURD!!!!! On everything he said except being the first to boost it. He can be the first. It is a little low on power but it makes up for it in handling! puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

I wasn't trying to start a war.....And my town only has one other DSM. So it hasn't hit here yet. Mostly older Monte's and Tons of Grand Ams and Grand Prix's. But once my car starts making the rounds, i'm sure they'll be following.

Miata is cool car. But way too small for me. Too underpowered. But if a little go-cart is more your style then that's your bag. I like the torque from my 15 year old wonder machine. And it'll only get better with every penny. Besides, it was $700, looks great, runs awsome for $200 into it and insurance is $126 every 6 months. Oh yeah, no wind noise and gets over 30mpg.

Boost it, many have done it before with good success. Might consider a later model motor swap first.

on the point of of the miata being an excellent car, i do think that they're beautiful machines. if i had the money to buy one right now, i would jump all over it (and likely ask nick to help me with a turbo for it ;)); but right now i have to be happy with my dsm and my house.
personally, i think the miata is a beautiful car that handles like few other cars (my aunt is all about small cars) so i'm aware of the competition. those of you that know my obsession with video games have likely heard me rant about my gran turismo 3 rivalry between the n/a miata and the turbo miata... but that's another matter...
i'm happy with owning one of the more unique dsms around town. i agree that they're getting too popular (for now), but it's the classic "i want to be like mike" syndrome. i bought mine back in the first half of '01 as my first independent vehicle purchase; before fast and the furious, before nick started his own shop, before everyone was crazy about going fast. why did i buy my dsm? because i think they're damn sexy! i didn't buy it for speed, i didn't buy it to be popular or because anyone told me they were awesome. i wanted something that looked good, had some power, and was awd (mom had just bought a subaru forester and i really liked the handling of awd). i spent months looking for the perfect awd dsm, and i finally found it in bismarck. sure, i spent 9500 on it, but i haven't had a single problem with it (besides the dipstick shooting out).
i say, to each his (or her) own, do what you like. or... my personalized saying....
do whatever floats your boat, just don't sink mine 😄
