Either go with them, just to make sure they behave, or else you drive. Of course you're not gonna be able to leave the store if you're the only one there, so that could be a problem I guess.

Don't let them drive if they can't prove they can buy it...especially the sports cars.

Its a tough call, i have had sales people in the past say that i couldn't take a car out alone and it literally cost them the sale of the vehicle because i felt i was being discriminated against, i can think of a WRX from luther Ford they had a few years ago, it was my going to be grad present from parents but the salesman that i talked to pretty much treated me like there was no way i was going to get that car, little did he know that was right in my price range given by my parents (STILL KICK MYSELF FOR NOT GETTING THAT CAR), but in the same token a lot of kids have no intent of purchasing the vehicle at all and just want to beat on it.

I know, I have been to places looking at cars in the past. I had $$$ saved up. Nothing like how much the RX8 or CTS-V cost. But I went and looked at a TT 300zx(was old and pretty shitty) and a couple of AWD Turbo DSMs. The dealerships would even let me have the keys to open the car up and pop the hood all of that. If I do not like how the inside or under the hood looks, its not worth taking for a test drive.

However, If I am going to buy a "sports" car I am not going to test drive it like a granny. I test drove a GTP at Gateway and the saleman encourage me to put my foot to the floor and take it to red line....

Jake next time I come in I'll tell you what the other used car lots tell younger kids who want to test drive a sports car...

My opinion is don't let them... unless your 100% sure they are in the market for that car..

One lot I knew of made it clear that you had to be 21 to drive any sports car ...BTW did you sell the Buick that you needed by 1pm today?

if i were selling new cars i wouldn't let anyone test drive the new ones. I'd have a demo car that was out of the breakin period on the lot so that people could actually hammer it a bit without screwing up a new car.

if we're talking used cars -- they're all out of the breakin period anyway. That said, there's no point in letting a kid that isn't interested or can't afford a car hammer on it. If you're trying to get a kid excited about something they can get "some day", they can do that just as easily from the passenger seat. If they press the issue have them bring proof of funds.

"Break ins" are overrated. Keep your oil clean and beat the shit out of it.

I would make them be at least 21 or at least 18. If they younger they better have parents there. If they are only 18 then just quiz them on how much money they want to spend, monthly payments, what kind of job. Just becareful not to lose a sale to someone between 18-21, Theres a lot of guys in the military that can afford those cars. But when you ask them what they do for a living they will say military or they just came back from Iraq. And so on. If they are coming back from Iraq They are going to have the money.
